About
Prof. Dr. Kamthorn Pruksananonda is a senior specialist at the Fertility Center & IVF Clinic of Bumrungrad International Hospital, consulting Monday to Friday at the Women’s Center (Building B, 2nd Floor). He has been practicing reproductive medicine since 1982 and holds the rank of Associate Professor at Chulalongkorn University.
After earning his MD at Chulalongkorn University and Thai board certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology (1988), he completed a fellowship in Reproductive Biology and Infertility at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in 1991, bringing US laboratory-based reproductive biology training back into Thai clinical practice. He received the Thai Subboard Diploma in Reproductive Medicine in 1997.
Beyond clinical work, Prof. Kamthorn contributes to reproductive biology research, with international publications covering topics such as human stem cell culture systems and epigenetic changes in oocytes of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Clinical Expertise
- Comprehensive infertility care: full evaluation and individualized treatment of ovulatory, tubal, endometriosis-related and male-factor infertility
- Assisted reproduction: IVF and ICSI cycle management from stimulation protocol design to embryo transfer
- Advanced maternal age and diminished ovarian reserve: tailored stimulation strategies for patients 35+ and poor responders
- PCOS-related infertility: evidence-based management informed by his own epigenetics research on oocyte quality in PCOS
- Reproductive biology consultation: interpretation of laboratory-side questions — embryo culture, endometrial receptivity, stem-cell biology — through an academic lens
Certifications
- Diploma of the Thai Subboard of Reproductive Medicine (1997)
- Diploma of the Thai Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (1988)

- Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University
Why Choose Prof. Dr. Kamthorn Pruksananonda
Prof. Kamthorn sits at the intersection of Thai academic medicine and hands-on IVF practice. His University of Pennsylvania fellowship in reproductive biology gives him a laboratory-level understanding of what determines embryo and oocyte quality, and his publication record — from feeder-cell systems for stem cell culture to L1 epigenetic studies in PCOS cumulus cells — means his treatment recommendations rest on primary science, not just guidelines. For patients with complex or long-standing infertility, that 40-year clinical-plus-research perspective is difficult to find in a private clinic setting.
Who It’s For
- Patients with complex infertility: repeated failures or multiple interacting factors benefit from a full diagnostic rework by a senior academic clinician.
- Women of advanced maternal age or low ovarian reserve: individualized protocols calibrated to realistic expectations.
- Patients seeking research-grounded care: those who want decisions informed by current reproductive biology evidence can consult directly with an active researcher in the field.
