About
Assoc. Prof. Phattaraphum Phophong is a specialist physician at the fertility center of Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok and an associate professor at Mahidol University. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in 1991, and has since built more than three decades of clinical practice in obstetrics-gynecology and reproductive medicine.
His genetics credentials are the backbone of his PGT practice: a 1999-2000 fellowship in Human Reproduction and Infertility at University College London Hospitals (UCH), followed by an M.Sc. in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine from University College London in 2000 — training that puts him on both sides of the embryo biopsy and the genetic diagnosis it feeds.
Alongside Bumrungrad, he also sees patients at Gift Fertility Bangkok (IW Clinic), according to that clinic’s team page.
Clinical Expertise
- Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT): embryo screening for couples carrying hereditary disease risk, drawing directly on his UCL prenatal genetics training
- Fertility-preserving laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery: conservative operative techniques that treat fibroids, cysts, adhesions, and endometriosis while preserving the uterus and ovarian function
- Full-programme IVF care: IVF, ICSI, and surgical sperm retrieval (PESA/TESE) across the whole treatment pathway
Why Choose Assoc. Prof. Phattaraphum Phophong
A genetics master’s from UCL is a rarity among Thai IVF clinicians, and it changes what a PGT consultation looks like: indication-setting, biopsy coordination, and result interpretation connect to one training lineage rather than to a courier relationship with an external lab.
His surgery profile fills the other gap many IVF-only specialists leave. Patients whose implantation is blocked by fibroids, ovarian cysts, or adhesions can have fertility-preserving endoscopic surgery and ART planning managed by the same physician — an important consideration for women who want operative treatment without compromising future ovarian reserve.
Thirty-plus years of practice, a Mahidol associate professorship, and Thai Board (1997) plus Sub-board (2005) certification place him among the most senior reproductive medicine consultants available in Bangkok’s private international hospitals.
Professional Affiliations
Dr. Phophong is certified by the Thai Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1997) and the Thai Sub-board of Reproductive Medicine (2005), completed his Human Reproduction and Infertility fellowship at UCH London (1999-2000), and holds the UCL prenatal genetics master’s (2000). As an associate professor of Mahidol University he combines academic and clinical standing, and he is listed as a member of Thailand’s reproductive medicine society (RTROM) on the Gift Fertility Bangkok team page.
Suitable For
- Couples with hereditary disease risk: PGT screening designed by a physician formally trained in prenatal genetics.
- Women needing conservative surgery: fibroids, ovarian cysts, or adhesions treated with fertility preservation as an explicit surgical goal.
- Complex or repeat IVF failures: cases where genetic-level screening and an integrated surgical-plus-ART review are both on the table.
