About
Paula Brady runs the Columbia Oncofertility Program, the service that moves fast enough to protect a patient’s fertility in the short window between a cancer diagnosis and the start of chemotherapy or radiation. That is a different discipline from routine IVF: the timeline is set by an oncologist, the decisions are made under distress, and the goal is to bank eggs, embryos or sperm before treatment that may end a person’s reproductive future. She directs that program while carrying a full fertility panel as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia.
She is a Columbia product who then trained at Harvard: an MD from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship in the Brigham and Women’s / Massachusetts General Harvard program. She consults in English and Finnish, and she wrote the textbook Handbook of Consult and Inpatient Gynecology (Springer, 2016).
Clinical Expertise
- Oncofertility: Fertility-preservation consultation for newly diagnosed cancer patients, coordinated with oncology teams
- Egg, Embryo and Sperm Banking: Rapid-cycle preservation before gonadotoxic treatment, including experimental ovarian tissue cryopreservation within the program
- IVF and Fertility Preservation for Planned Delay: Standard preservation for patients not facing medical treatment
- PGT-A: Embryo genetic screening as part of preservation and treatment cycles
- Third-Party Reproduction: Donor egg and gestational-carrier paths for patients whose own gametes are no longer viable after treatment
Why Choose Dr. Brady
A dedicated oncofertility director. Few clinics have a physician whose named title is running the cancer-fertility program; Brady is Columbia’s.
The clock-driven side of preservation. Fertility preservation before chemotherapy is a coordination problem as much as a medical one, and it is the exact work she leads.
She wrote the textbook. Authorship of Handbook of Consult and Inpatient Gynecology reflects command of the inpatient and consult gynecology that oncofertility patients often need alongside their oncology care.
Finnish-language consults. She offers care in Finnish as well as English.
