About Austin Fertility and Reproductive Medicine - Westlake IVF

Austin Fertility and Reproductive Medicine (AFRM) Westlake IVF is the IVF core location of the AFRM practice, located in the Westlake Hills area of Austin, Texas. The family-run center has helped couples build their families since 1983 and operates three locations across the Austin metro (Westlake, South Austin, and Round Rock); Westlake houses the practice’s only embryology laboratory, egg retrieval suite, and embryo transfer suite.

According to the SART 2023 Final report, the clinic completed 543 treatment cycles, with a cumulative live birth rate of 54.5% per intended egg retrieval for patients under 35 and 27.1% for ages 38-40. Westlake IVF is the only fertility center in Austin where procedure rooms and the IVF laboratory sit within the office setting, so patients know both the physician performing their IVF and the clinical staff assisting throughout.

Accreditations & Awards

  • Only private dual-specialty center in Texas: AFRM is the only private fertility center in the state with in-house fellowship-trained, board-certified specialists in both female (reproductive endocrinology) and male (reproductive urology) fertility, per the clinic’s official site.
  • In-house IVF laboratory: The only IVF lab and procedure rooms within an office setting in Austin (Westlake IVF).
  • Physician awards: Dr. Shahryar Kavoussi has received multiple Patients’ Choice Awards since 2008; Dr. Parviz Kavoussi is a Texas Monthly Superdoctor and Compassionate Doctor Award recipient.
  • Male fertility outcomes: Dr. Parviz Kavoussi reports greater than 95% success for vasectomy reversals within 15 years of vasectomy, and exceptionally high sperm retrieval rates for men with azoospermia (per the clinic’s official site).
  • SART member + CAP accredited: ClinicPKID=2574; SART ClinicSearch displays the CAP Accredited badge.

Why Choose Austin Fertility and Reproductive Medicine - Westlake IVF

  • Austin’s only in-house IVF laboratory — Egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and the embryology lab are all within the office setting; retrieval takes 10-20 minutes with about one hour of recovery, all in one familiar location.
  • Female + male specialists under one roof — Reproductive endocrinologists and a fellowship-trained reproductive urologist collaborate on couple-based care; about 22% of infertility is male-factor and another 30-40% involves both partners.
  • Microsurgical male fertility expertise — Vasectomy reversal (mini-incision microsurgical and da Vinci robot-assisted), no-scalpel vasectomy, and microTESE for men with azoospermia; most men with no sperm in the semen can have sperm found via microTESE for IVF/ICSI.
  • Minimally invasive surgery — da Vinci robot-assisted tubal reversal and myomectomy with same-day discharge, smaller incisions, and faster recovery.
  • Family-run, personalized care — Patient reviews repeatedly highlight weekend result calls from physicians, attentive nursing, and clear financial guidance; patients are not treated like numbers.
  • PGT-A and genetics services — The SART report notes the clinic performs a significant number of PGT cycles; PGD chromosome analysis is offered before transfer.

IVF & Fertility Services

  • IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) — AMH-guided ovarian stimulation, transvaginal ultrasound and hormone monitoring, egg retrieval in the Westlake IVF suite, conventional fertilization, Day 3 or Day 5 embryo transfer
  • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) — Routinely recommended for severe male factor or prior fertilization failure
  • Assisted Hatching — Laser opening of the zona pellucida to improve implantation in select cases
  • PGD/PGT — Embryo biopsy and chromosome analysis before transfer
  • Embryo Vitrification — Fast-freeze protocol for surplus blastocysts with high thaw survival
  • IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) — Available on weekdays and weekends
  • Ovulation Induction — Clomid, Letrozole, and gonadotropins (FSH / FSH+LH)
  • Male Infertility Evaluation & Treatment — Semen analysis, hormonal assessment, varicocele repair, microTESE
  • Vasectomy Reversal & Vasectomy — Mini-incision microsurgical and da Vinci robot-assisted reversal; in-office no-scalpel vasectomy
  • da Vinci Robot-Assisted Tubal Reversal / Myomectomy
  • Donor Eggs / Sperm / Embryos — Anonymous or known donors, all screened per FDA guidance
  • Egg Freezing & Fertility Preservation
  • Gestational Carrier Coordination
  • LGBTQ+ Family Building — Options for patients regardless of gender or sexual orientation

Fees & Packages

The clinic does not publish specific treatment prices. AFRM partners with four financing providers — CapexMD, Future Family, United Credit, and Prosper Healthcare Lending — offering installment payment plans for IVF and egg freezing (per the clinic’s Financing page).

Patient Journey

  1. Initial consultation — Book via the online Schedule a Consultation form or by phone to discuss your history and options with a reproductive endocrinologist.
  2. New patient questionnaires — Download the female or male fertility questionnaire, vasectomy questionnaires, and other forms from the clinic’s Patient Forms page.
  3. Couple-based evaluation — Female partner assessed by an REI physician (ultrasound, hormones, ovarian reserve); male partner assessed by the reproductive urologist (semen analysis, etc.).
  4. Individualized treatment plan — Ovarian stimulation protocol tailored to AMH and other markers; financing options reviewed before treatment.
  5. IVF cycle — Stimulation monitoring (about 4-5 ultrasounds and hormone draws) → egg retrieval at Westlake IVF under IV sedation → fertilization/ICSI → embryo culture with PGT if indicated → Day 3 or Day 5 transfer.
  6. Support and follow-up — Estrogen and progesterone support through 10 weeks of gestation; weekend IUI availability and physician result calls noted in patient reviews.

Texas does not mandate commercial insurance coverage for IVF, so most patients self-pay with financing plans. Gestational agreements have a clear statutory framework under Chapter 34 of the Texas Family Code, and the clinic coordinates gestational carrier services. Donor screening follows U.S. FDA guidance; ART laboratories operate under CLIA oversight with CAP accreditation, and success rates are reported to the CDC through the NASS system.

⭐ **1 Star** when I really wanted to put 0! The 1 stars reviews are a real red flag!!!! Dr Kavoussi (male doctor) was nice aside from his his rude, unprofessional and nasty staff! This was a BIG CONCERN from the start and I advised him of that. Save you time and money and go elsewhere based on treatment from STAFF ALONE! Very disappointing experience due to poor communication and administrative issues. I was told my new patient intake forms would be sent **by text** before my emergency tele-visit. That never happened. Instead, I was contacted **30 minutes before my appointment** and told the visit couldn’t proceed because the intake wasn’t completed, then informed the forms had been emailed without my knowledge because I had been told txt. I was later told the intake was required a week prior—despite the appointment itself being scheduled only a week earlier. Finally found the "email" which again wasn't told to be the method. So I was forced to be rescheduled even though I purposely picked the date I originally had. The nasty rep stated "Well Dr Kavoussi will be missing his lunch just to re squeeze you in" how unprofessional as if my life doesn't matter and or I wouldn't have to make the same changes being that I'm now forced to pick a different unknown date. Moving along, I was rescheduled and got a new date and told to wait for an appointment to be scheduled with a different place for imaging reasons. Afterward, I was emailed my MRI authorization details which was then delayed once i scheduled my appointment with them because this office provided **incorrect and incomplete fax information** to the imaging provider (ARA). ARA confirmed they faxed requests **four times**, yet staff attempted to shift blame elsewhere. I had sent an email prior requesting the manager to please contact me back about the beginning issue and no manager ever contacted me back. After raising concerns about the imaging issues, I was abruptly told about 45 minutes after ARA and one of their staff ladies released a three way call bc I "the patient" had to do leg work that I was “not a good fit” for the practice by the unprofessional "Office manager", which felt retaliatory. I had no issues with the physician; the problems were entirely administrative. Proceed with caution. Forgot to mention, I immediately sent a removal request of charges by email since the charges were for a televisit which never led to any rendered services. Oh and guess what no response back, (expected) another act of bad business which is totally fine, I will proceed to the board. I'm appalled and have never been treated like this by ANY place of business who carries professionalism as a standard.

The best IVF team there is. My husband and I had an overwhelmingly positive experience with the entire team. Both Dr. P. Kavoussi and Dr. S. Kavoussi are extremely knowledgeable and talented at what they do. The IVF nurses are hands down the nicest and most caring group of people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I always felt like I was getting the best care by everyone I spoke to or dealt with during the entire process. They truly go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of throughout the entire process and not just physically, they also check in on your emotional state as well, as IVF is not always a joyous journey for everyone. You can reach your team at any hour of the day, any day of the week and for IVF that is extremely necessary. I can't tell you how many times I spoke with Dr. Kavoussi late at night, whether it was just him checking in on me or answering a medication question if I was unsure of something. I really felt like we all went on the journey together and while it was exciting to graduate with a successful pregnancy, it was also sad to have to leave people I grew to love so much. Special shout-out to my nurse Kelsey who is the most amazing person on the planet and I was honored to have her with me the entire time. So caring and compassionate, she was born for this work. I love this team so much and will always remember them and the special gift they brought to mine and my husband's lives. Truly angels on earth.

I cannot say enough positive things about Austin Fertility, and specifically Michelle in Kelli Parrish’s office. Michelle has gone above and beyond in every possible way to help my husband and me get the medication he needs. She personally made multiple phone calls to pharmacies and insurance companies, advocating for us and working tirelessly to resolve issues that felt overwhelming at the time. I have truly never experienced this level of dedication and follow-through in any medical setting. She kept me consistently updated, explained each step of the process, and never made us feel like just another patient or task on her list. Beyond her professionalism, Michelle is incredibly kind, personable, and compassionate — qualities that make such a difference when navigating something as stressful as fertility care. Her commitment, empathy, and genuine desire to help are the reason I felt compelled to write this review. Because of Michelle, we felt supported, heard, and cared for every step of the way. I highly recommend this office, and I am especially grateful for Michelle’s exceptional care and advocacy. She truly made a difficult process manageable, and we will never forget the impact she had on our experience.

I have heard only good things about Dr. Kavoussi and he was great during my first consult, I'm sure he has good hands. The NP Amy also had great hands during my procedure. The staff however did not know how to handle insurance, especially through Tricare/Triwest since I was preauthorized to be there. I was suddenly told that I would have to pay out of pocket for a surgery in 2 days, told insurance doesn't normally cover it, but that was the whole reason I had been authorized by my insurance to come to their office in the first place (for that surgery which they had made clear on the referral as was discussed with Dr. Kavoussi). The staff told me "Follow up with your case-worker through your insurance referral." As a VA patient, that is not the normal workflow for how referred care usually works from my experience 10 years of experience. I did send some secure messages immediately to assist, but needed records to do so since they require chart notes and pictures. I was told those were ready for me at a different location so I picked up and found out no images were included after I requested them specifically on the records release form. No one has contacted me ever since that appointment, they don't seem to care if you fall through the cracks. I have reached out several times to check the status for surgery scheduling with no help. I'm now going with another provider.

I was told by the NP over the phone that I had a 1.4cm tumor on my pituitary. I spent 24hr in a state of distress. I informed my loved ones. I had an appointment with my endocrinologist the next day, who reassured me the ‘tumor’ was a 1.4mm unconfirmed microadenoma. Nothing to worry about and she wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see it on my next scan. Even if it was a confirmed microadenoma it was far too small to have any effect on my pituitary gland. My family and I were taken on a cruel emotional roller coaster for nothing. Most communication and treatment is done through support staff, such as the NP, I saw the doctor maybe twice in my 1+ years with this facility.

Dr. Kavoussi: Dr. Kavoussi is not only a brilliant doctor but also one of the most caring and compassionate people I’ve ever met. He took the time to explain even the most complex medical concepts in a way that made sense to us, ensuring we were always comfortable and informed. He never rushed through our appointments, making sure all our concerns were addressed. His kindness and patience truly made a world of difference during this journey. Amy and Sarah: Amy and Sarah are the kind of nurses you hope for in such a vulnerable experience. They were always there to answer every question, no matter how small or repetitive, and they never made me feel like a burden. Their empathy shone through in every interaction—celebrating our wins with genuine joy and offering heartfelt support during the tougher moments. Their care and compassion provided such a sense of comfort and reassurance when we needed it most. Ann: Ann is an absolute gem. Not only did she guide us through every financial option with clarity and understanding, but she also knew how to bring a smile to our faces. Even in the midst of serious discussions, she had a way of making us laugh and feel at ease. Her warmth and humor were exactly what we needed to navigate the financial side of IVF without feeling overwhelmed. The Front Staff Ladies: Though I wish I could remember all their names, what I’ll never forget is the warmth of their smiles every time I walked through the door. From the moment I stepped into the clinic, I felt welcomed and cared for, and that meant the world during such an emotional time. This team has been nothing short of amazing, and I am forever grateful for the care and compassion they’ve shown us. They’ve made this challenging journey a little easier, and I’ll always hold them close in my heart as we look forward to meeting our little one.

I agree with the other 1 star on here. This place is poorly run, labs were not called in a timely manner and extensive wait times making it hard to plan your day. You don't know if you'll be in the lobby for 15 minutes or over an hour after …

My wife and I visited several clinics in town. This place seemed like one of the most poorly run IVF clinics in town. Issues with our appointment time and receptionist was rude. I later did research and saw that they have very low IVF success rates. I would avoid this place. Just my opinion.
