About

About

An REI fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School ran in parallel with two other Boston appointments: Amelia Bailey was an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology while she completed her training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She is now Director of Fertility Preservation at Fertility Associates of Memphis, the subprogram that handles egg, sperm and embryo banking for patients whose timeline is being compressed by something else — a cancer diagnosis, gonadotoxic treatment, or no partner yet.

Before Boston she was Chief Resident of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, and she earned her medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson. She graduated from Mississippi’s Honors College as a Carrier Scholar, inducted into its Hall of Fame and inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She is board certified twice over by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology: in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Bailey has written more than 20 research publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals and delivered more than 200 lectures, and she has received multiple teaching and patient satisfaction awards. Her stated clinical interests, beyond general infertility care, are young women with polycystic ovary syndrome and couples whose workup comes back unexplained.

Clinical Expertise

  • Fertility preservation and egg freezing: as FAM’s director of the program, she runs consultation, ovarian reserve assessment, 10-14 days of stimulation, monitoring and retrieval, with mature eggs frozen by vitrification and stored indefinitely under the patient’s own data access
  • Oncology-adjacent timing: the clinic takes preservation referrals directly from oncologists, and Bailey’s guidance is to freeze before treatment that damages eggs begins; the late twenties to mid thirties give the strongest odds, with 20 or more eggs banked before 35 associated with the clinic’s stated success rate above 70%
  • IVF management: stimulation through retrieval, insemination or ICSI, day 5-7 culture and transfer planning, including cycles where frozen eggs are later thawed and fertilized with partner or donor sperm
  • PCOS in younger women: ovulation induction and stimulation planning for a population that tends to over-respond to medication, with attention to the metabolic side of the diagnosis
  • Unexplained infertility: structured evaluation, then IUI or IVF sequencing rather than open-ended timed trying
  • LGBTQ+ family building: reciprocal IVF, where one partner provides eggs and the other carries, is offered at FAM alongside donor sperm from partnered sperm banks or a known donor, and gestational carrier cycles built on banked eggs

Why Choose Dr. Amelia Bailey

She holds the preservation chair at a clinic that markets it. Fertility preservation is not a side interest she shares with four colleagues; it is a named directorship, which matters when you are trying to get a cycle scheduled between chemotherapy cycles.

Harvard and MIT on the same résumé line. She taught at Harvard Medical School and worked as a visiting scientist at MIT during fellowship, which is an unusually research-heavy training profile for a private Memphis practice.

Two board certifications, not one. ABOG certification in both REI and OB/GYN means the physician evaluating your ovaries is also credentialed in the underlying obstetric and gynecologic medicine.

She lectures for a living. 200-plus lectures and 20-plus peer-reviewed papers, plus teaching awards, and the practical effect is that a patient asking “why this protocol” gets an answer built on literature rather than habit.

She works where the lab is in the building. Vitrification, sperm washing and embryo culture at FAM happen on site under a dual-certified laboratory director, so the preservation plan and the lab that executes it answer to the same practice.

Professional Affiliations

Board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology — two certifications, one certifying body, and the extent of the credential claims her profile makes. Her institutional affiliations run through Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she trained and taught, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was a visiting scientist. She practices within Fertility Associates of Memphis’s SART-member reporting structure, whose outcomes are filed under a single Memphis registration, Kutteh Ke Fertility Associates of Memphis, PLLC, rather than a multi-state network total.

Suitable For

  • Patients with a new cancer diagnosis: preservation before treatment that damages eggs, sperm or embryos, coordinated with the oncology team
  • Elective egg freezers: consultation through retrieval and long-term storage, with transparent numbers on how many eggs a cycle is likely to yield
  • Women with PCOS, especially younger patients: stimulation planning for high responders is the special interest she names herself
  • Couples with unexplained infertility: a defined evaluation and a sequenced treatment path instead of indefinite waiting
  • Lesbian couples and single parents planning reciprocal IVF or donor sperm cycles: the preservation directorship overlaps directly with donor-based family building
  • Patients who want a teaching physician: 200-plus lectures and multiple teaching awards, with a communication style built around explaining the plan

Best For
