About
Andrew Rezk picked the least glamorous variable in IVF and made it his research subject: what the patient’s metabolic health does to a cycle. His published work looks at obesity, metabolic dysfunction and the fertility consequences of bariatric surgery — the question of when losing weight changes your odds enough to be worth the time, and when it is just a delay dressed up as advice.
He is Los Angeles-born and trained, with an undergraduate degree from UC Irvine and an MD from the University of Miami, then OB/GYN residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. Residency produced two honors that rarely appear together: the David Off Teaching Award and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility’s Resident Award for Excellence in REI. He is now an REI fellow at the USC Keck School of Medicine, practicing at HRC Pasadena, the group’s original 1988 campus and a Keck Medicine of USC affiliate.
His clinical framing is pre-cycle: assess and improve the things that measurably move IVF outcomes — weight, insulin resistance, thyroid and vitamin status, timing — before a single stimulation injection is given. He sees patients in English, Spanish and Arabic, a combination few physicians on the West Coast carry.
Clinical Expertise
- Infertility evaluation: ovarian reserve and hormone testing, ovulatory assessment, uterine cavity evaluation and partner semen analysis, assembled into a staged treatment recommendation
- Metabolic and weight-related infertility: PCOS, insulin resistance and obesity-related subfertility managed with pre-treatment optimization rather than protocol escalation alone
- Bariatric surgery and fertility: counseling on conception timing after surgical weight loss, nutrient surveillance, and how altered anatomy changes oral medication use
- IVF cycle support within the HRC Pasadena lab: stimulation, monitoring and transfer alongside the campus’s own embryology laboratory
- Preconception health optimization: a defined workup in the weeks before a cycle, aimed at improving the odds of the cycle you are paying for
Why Choose Dr. Rezk
Three languages, no interpreter. English, Spanish and Arabic consultations mean consent discussions, injection teaching and result conversations happen directly. For Arabic-speaking families in the Los Angeles basin, that is often the deciding factor.
He studies the variable most clinics mention and then ignore. Body weight and metabolic health affect stimulation dose, fertilization, miscarriage risk and anesthesia safety, and insurance policies on fertility treatment frequently hinge on BMI. A physician who researches bariatric surgery outcomes can tell you what the evidence does and does not support, instead of a number from a coverage letter.
Teaching recognition at two levels. The Off Teaching Award is a residency teaching honor; the SREI Resident Award for Excellence in REI is a national society recognition in his subspecialty. Both point to the same trait: he explains things well enough that educators noticed.
Fellowship at USC, practice at HRC Pasadena. He trains in an academic REI program and works in a high-volume private network with in-house labs, which is where a fellow sees complete cycle trajectories — protocol, response, retrieval, transfer, outcome — rather than one slice of them.
Still in training, and worth knowing the implications. As a fellow, his cases are supervised by HRC attendings, and appointment availability at Pasadena is often better than a fully booked senior physician’s. If you want a physician who is current on metabolic-fertility literature and reachable inside two weeks, that trade works in your favor.

Suitable For
Patients told their BMI is the barrier. Structured assessment of whether weight loss will change your prognosis, and a plan that does not leave you guessing about how long to wait before an IVF attempt.
PCOS and insulin resistance. Metabolic management as part of fertility treatment rather than a pamphlet handed over at discharge.
Before or after bariatric surgery. Conception timing, nutrient monitoring and medication absorption questions that a general fertility practice rarely fields with confidence.
Spanish- and Arabic-speaking patients. Visits conducted in the patient’s own language.
Anyone at the start of a workup. A thorough, staged evaluation before a cycle is recommended, with the reasoning shown.
