About
Before a stage-IV endometriosis patient starts IVF she is usually asked to pick between three months of hormonal suppression, an operation, or going straight to a cycle. Aydin Arici co-authored the 2021 Cochrane systematic review of long pituitary down-regulation before IVF in endometriosis patients — the evidence base clinics quote when they make that recommendation — and the mechanism underneath it is his longer subject: the chemokines and cytokines produced by endometrial and immune cells, how endometriosis restructures pelvic inflammation, and what that environment does to an implanting embryo. It is a lab question with a clinic consequence, and his clinical panel reflects it: endometriosis-associated infertility, fibroids and uterine anomalies, implantation failure and recurrent loss.
The mechanism work turns into trial options. He is listed on the PREGnant study, which tests suppressing women with a GnRH antagonist before IVF when endometriosis is the diagnosis — the kind of question that gets answered at an academic site rather than a franchise clinic. His own published work covers fibroids and infertility, the immunobiology of endometriosis, and epidemiologic factors in IVF outcome.
He qualified in 1979 at Istanbul University’s Istanbul Medical School, trained in obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and completed his reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1992, and holds American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology certification in both obstetrics and gynecology and in REI. He has been on Yale’s obstetrics and gynecology faculty for the whole of his American academic career and teaches in the department that trains Yale’s REI fellows. Appointments require a patient or physician referral and he offers telehealth; he consults in English, French and Turkish.
Clinical Expertise
- Endometriosis and fertility — staged management of stage III-IV disease, including whether to suppress before IVF, operate before IVF, or go straight to a cycle
- Uterine fibroids and congenital or acquired uterine anomalies — septate uterus, intrauterine adhesions and cavity-distorting fibroids assessed before transfer rather than after failure
- Implantation failure — evaluating the inflammatory and anatomic endometrial environment in patients with repeated good-quality transfers and no pregnancy
- Recurrent pregnancy loss — hormonal, anatomic, genetic and immunologic evaluation as part of Yale’s multidisciplinary loss service
- IVF cycle management and stimulation protocol design in patients whose reserve or anatomy complicates standard protocols
- Innovation in assisted reproduction — his stated research interests include novel reproductive technologies, and he is attached to an interventional endometriosis trial
Why Choose Dr. Arici
A single disease worked on for decades. Most fertility profiles list endometriosis as one interest among ten. Arici’s publication record is concentrated on the inflammatory biology of the endometrium, which is the reasoning behind his treatment choices rather than a sidebar.
Cochrane-grade evidence in his own field. He co-authored the 2021 Cochrane review of down-regulation before IVF for endometriosis — patients asking whether to be suppressed for three months get an answer informed by that literature.
A trial you can be screened for. PREGnant tests pre-IVF GnRH antagonist treatment in endometriosis. Ask whether you qualify, and what the study protocol changes about your cycle.
Double board certification plus four decades of practice. Certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in REI, with an MD dated 1979 and a 1992 fellowship; long-tenured Yale faculty.
Three consultation languages. English, French and Turkish, which matters for a history that spans several prior clinics and countries.

Suitable For
- Stage III-IV endometriosis patients deciding between surgery, suppression and straight-to-IVF
- Women with fibroids or a uterine anomaly who want the cavity evaluated before another transfer is spent
- Patients with repeated implantation failure whose embryos looked fine
- Recurrent loss cases needing an immunologic and anatomic workup in one place
- Patients who consult more comfortably in French or Turkish, including those arriving with records from several previous clinics
