About
In 2012, Dr. Brian Berger opened Donor Egg Bank USA — the first donor egg bank in New England, and still the largest in the region. Patients who need donor eggs no longer had to fly to a national bank and wait through an anonymous matching cycle; vials could be reserved locally. That is the throughline of his career: he identifies a bottleneck in fertility care and builds infrastructure around it. In 1999 he performed the first elective partner-assisted reproduction (reciprocal IVF) in Massachusetts for a lesbian couple, using one partner’s eggs retrieved through IVF and the other partner’s uterus for the pregnancy, with both women legally named on the birth certificate.
Berger is double board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, with fellowships at UC San Diego and Weill Medical College of Cornell. He serves as Medical Director of Boston IVF’s South Shore Center in Quincy and as a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School, where he teaches, and he has lectured worldwide on diminished ovarian reserve, recurrent miscarriage, PGD and LGBT family building. At Boston IVF he also pioneered the first outpatient vaginal paracentesis for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and the use of Lupron to trigger ovulation, and he launched the clinic’s Fertility Preservation/Egg Freezing department.
His clinical interests concentrate where IVF is hardest: decreased ovarian function, unexplained infertility, recurrent miscarriage, and donor egg cycles. Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2012, a Boston Magazine Top Doctor for eight consecutive years, profiled in Newsweek, The New York Times and The Boston Globe, and a reviewer for Fertility and Sterility, Human Reproduction and Reproductive Biomedicine Online.

Why Choose Dr. Brian Berger
Builder of programs, not just prescriber of protocols. The donor egg bank, the egg-freezing department, the reciprocal IVF program — three structures at Boston IVF that carry his fingerprints.
New protocols for tough diagnoses. His published work focuses on new fertility protocols, including treatments for women with decreased ovarian function — patients many clinics write off early.
He teaches at Harvard Medical School and reviews for four major reproductive journals, so the literature passes through his desk twice.
Recognized in and outside the clinic. Castle Connolly Top Doctor 2012-2025, national press features, and a self-described practice of working “tirelessly 7 days a week” for patients.
