About

About

The hardest fertility-preservation patient is the one who has not started puberty. Dr. Dan Goldschlag published breakthrough work on obtaining and cryopreserving immature oocytes from prepubertal girls before gonadotoxic chemotherapy — an attempt to give childhood cancer patients an option that standard egg freezing cannot. That problem defines his practice at the Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine, where he has been faculty since 1999.

His preservation work spans the usual indications too: egg and embryo freezing for adult cancer patients, for women at risk of premature ovarian failure, and for elective family timing, plus the endocrine disorders underneath — delayed puberty, disorders of sexual development, diminished reserve. He has published several papers on fertility preservation and related topics in reproductive medicine and presents at national meetings.

Goldschlag took both his undergraduate degrees (B.A./M.S., 1988) and his medical degree (1992) at Wayne State University in Detroit, trained in OB/GYN at Albert Einstein College of Medicine — where he rose to administrative chief resident and resident of the year — then completed his REI fellowship at CRM and never left. He is dual board-certified by ABOG, and splits his schedule between the Upper East Side main office and Garden City on Long Island, where he is a site physician.

Clinical Expertise

  • Oncofertility: fertility preservation planned against chemotherapy and radiation start dates — eggs, embryos and sperm
  • Prepubertal Oocyte Banking: rare-case retrieval and cryopreservation of immature eggs, a research line he published
  • Elective Egg and Embryo Freezing: vitrification through CRM’s in-house laboratory
  • IVF: complete cycle management with preservation options designed into difficult cases up front
  • Reproductive Endocrine Disorders: premature ovarian failure, sexual development disorders, menstrual irregularity
  • Minimally Invasive Fertility Surgery: laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for fibroids, polyps, endometriosis, tubal blockage, adhesions and septum

Why Choose Dr. Goldschlag

He publishes on the cases other clinics turn away. Prepubertal egg retrieval is not a standard service; his name is on the technique’s difficult frontier.

A career at one center since 1999. Continuous CRM faculty since 1999 — through the era when vitrification went from experimental to routine — means preservation advice grounded in outcomes he watched develop.

Surgery and stimulation in one plan. Anatomical problems that sabotage cycles (submucous fibroids, adhesions, hydrosalpinx) are addressed by the same physician running the stimulation.

Long Island access. Garden City site physician, so monitoring does not require a Manhattan commute twice a week.

Professional Affiliations

Member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Board-certified by ABOG in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Assistant attending obstetrician/gynecologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Residency honors: administrative chief resident, resident of the year, and an outstanding award in biomedical research.

Suitable For

  • Newly diagnosed cancer patients: preservation decisions must land before treatment starts; his practice is built for that timeline
  • Parents of girls facing chemo: the prepubertal oocyte banking work he published
  • Elective egg freezers: an in-house vitrification lab and a physician who has watched the technology mature since before it was routine
  • Premature ovarian failure and disorders of sexual development: endocrine evaluation plus preservation planning
  • Patients needing cavity-clearing surgery before transfer: hysteroscopic and laparoscopic correction by a reproductive surgeon
