About
Dr. Afida Sohana Awang Soh is a senior obstetrics and gynaecology registrar with the Metro IVF group, based at Hospital Wanita Metro. She studied medicine at the University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating MBChB in 2001 and adding a Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics with Distinction in 2004.
The first phase of her career unfolded in New Zealand: senior registrar and trainee positions under the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) system across several hospitals, combined with teaching work as Honorary Clinical Lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology across multiple University of Otago campuses. She returned to Malaysia in 2016 and continued in women’s and children’s health through several private hospitals before taking her current senior registrar post.
Dr. Afida is also a public health educator. She is a founding member of MedTweetMY (Medical Tweet Malaysia), an NGO that takes medical literacy to mainstream and social media, and served as its secretary from its founding in 2016 until 2022. She co-wrote its book “Perang Melawan Mitos” — literally “War on Myths” — which was nominated for Best MPH Non-Fiction Book 2017. She is a member of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM) and the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).

Professional Certifications

Why Choose Dr. Afida Sohana Awang Soh
Trained in the Australasian specialist system. RANZCOG training is widely regarded as one of the more demanding O&G programmes internationally. Dr. Afida progressed through it to senior registrar level while also teaching medical students — clinical and academic depth at the same time.
Distinction-level obstetrics credentials. Her Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics was awarded with Distinction in 2004; her approach to pregnancy care is anchored in that formal obstetric specialisation, not general practice.
A record of fighting health misinformation. As a founding member and secretary (2016–2022) of MedTweetMY, and co-author of the myth-busting book “Perang Melawan Mitos” (nominated for Best MPH Non-Fiction Book 2017), she spends her professional energy replacing folk advice with evidence. For patients navigating fertility claims online, that is a rare and practical skill in a consultant.
Teaching embedded in clinical work. Years as an honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Otago translate into consultations where findings, options and next steps are actually explained — patients leave informed, not just instructed.
