About
Erkan Buyuk writes and grades the exam that decides who else gets to call himself a reproductive endocrinologist. He is a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s REI certifying examination, and he runs the fellowship program at RMA of New York and Mount Sinai that trains the candidates sitting it. Few physicians hold both ends of that pipeline at the same time.
His own route into the specialty crossed two countries. Medical school at Hacettepe University in Turkey, OB/GYN residency at Marmara University Hospital in Istanbul, then a second US residency at Maimonides Medical Center and a reproductive endocrinology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, completed in 2010. Before joining RMA in 2019 he directed the fertility preservation program at Einstein/Montefiore, which is still the service he is known for at the East Side office.
He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and abstracts, and his scientific work has been recognized by the Society for Reproductive Investigation (Bayer Award, 2018) and by the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, which gave him its Prize Paper at the 2019 annual meeting. He consults in English, Turkish, French and Spanish.
Clinical Expertise
- Egg and embryo freezing: he ran a dedicated fertility preservation program before joining RMA, and preservation remains a listed service
- IVF with diminished ovarian reserve: the patient group his publications and his program directorship both keep returning to
- Preimplantation genetic testing: screening decisions inside his IVF and preservation cycles
- Fellowship training in REI: as program director he sets what the next cohort of specialists is taught
- Board assessment: examiner work for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s REI certifying examination — the standard-setting side of the same specialty
Why Choose Dr. Buyuk
He trains the specialists and exams them. Program director of the RMA NY/Mount Sinai REI fellowship plus an ABOG REI board examiner — the two roles rarely sit with one person.
Preservation was his job title, not just a service line. Former Director of Fertility Preservation at Einstein/Montefiore.
A research record with outside validation. Over 100 peer-reviewed publications, a Society for Reproductive Investigation/Bayer Award and a Pacific Coast Reproductive Society prize paper.
Four consultation languages: English, Turkish, French and Spanish, which makes him the natural choice for international patients in this network’s New York office.
