About

About

Dr. Kanako Hanaoka is the founding director of Hanaoka IVF Clinic (Shinagawa) and also established its sister clinic, Hanaoka Ladies Clinic, in Omori. She graduated from Toho University School of Medicine in 1993, earned a Doctor of Medical Science there in 2003, and has practiced in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine for more than 30 years.

Her career moved through Omori Red Cross Hospital, the reproductive medicine team of Toho University Medical Center and a presidency at Cinema Art Clinic before she founded Hanaoka Ladies Clinic in 2008, became president of Futaraba Medical Corporation in 2012 and opened the IVF-focused Shinagawa clinic in 2014. That two-clinic structure — initial consultations and routine care in Omori, ART procedures in Shinagawa — remains the group’s operating model.

Her guiding belief is that every patient deserves the treatment best suited to her specific situation, not a standardized production-line protocol.

Clinical Expertise

  • IVF (In Vitro Fertilization): full-cycle management from stimulation to embryo transfer, with retrieval timing judged cycle by cycle
  • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): micromanipulation fertilization for male factor infertility
  • Individualized cycle design: protocols adjusted to hormone levels, ovarian reserve and treatment history in every cycle, spanning controlled stimulation, mild stimulation, estrogen-augmented and natural cycles
  • Endometrial receptivity assessment: use of ERA/EMMA/ALICE-type testing to time embryo transfer precisely
  • PGT-A: preimplantation genetic screening integrated into transfer planning where appropriate

Why Choose Dr. Kanako Hanaoka

Dr. Hanaoka holds Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine certification as a Reproductive Medicine Specialist and Supervising Physician — a training-of-trainers designation reflecting the highest tier of specialist standing in Japanese reproductive medicine, and the basis on which she mentors the clinic’s younger physicians. With over 30 years spanning university hospitals, a red cross hospital and her own clinics, she covers the entire infertility pathway. Her insistence on reassessing the protocol every cycle rather than repeating a fixed regimen is central to the clinic’s reported results: a 70.5% clinical pregnancy rate in blastocyst transfers for patients under 30 (clinic data, April 2022 - March 2024), which the clinic states is more than 20% above the Japanese national average. As Futaraba Medical Corporation president, she also built the two-clinic system that lets patients split routine visits and procedures between Omori and Shinagawa.

Suitable For

  • Couples planning IVF or ICSI: clear pathway planning for patients entering assisted reproduction for the first time, from stimulation choice through transfer.
  • Patients with disappointing results elsewhere: the clinic’s per-cycle re-evaluation approach suits patients whose previous clinics kept one protocol despite poor response.
  • Patients wanting a fully individualized plan: hormone profile, ovarian reserve and history drive every decision, with the clinic’s stated aim being pregnancy itself rather than simply completing cycle steps.
