About
Carlos Hernandez-Nieto runs clinical trials at the clinic where he also treats patients. As Associate Director of Clinical Research at RMA of New York he is responsible for how studies are designed and executed at the East Side practice, and as an endometriosis and diminished-ovarian-reserve specialist he is on the receiving end of the same question his trials ask: what does a surgical decision do to a subsequent IVF cycle?
That question is literally in his publication record. He is a co-author of work comparing conservative treatment with surgical excision of ovarian dermoid cysts and measuring the effect on ovarian stimulation and IVF outcomes — the kind of study that exists because a surgeon and a reproductive endocrinologist argued about the same patient.
His training was in Mexico: medical school at the University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP) and OB/GYN residency at the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) School of Medicine, completed 2010, where he is board-certified by the Mexican College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He joined RMA of New York in 2016 and has published in reproductive endocrinology, infertility and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, with ASRM academic recognition. He consults in English and Spanish.
Clinical Expertise
- Endometriosis-associated infertility: surgical and IVF strategy weighed against each other rather than decided by default
- Diminished ovarian reserve: stimulation approaches for patients with few recruitable eggs
- Preimplantation genetic testing: listed among his clinical focus areas
- Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery: the operative side of his research, and the reason his IVF decisions are informed by what a procedure costs the ovary
- Trial design and execution: he directs the clinical research program at this site
