About
Dr. Hoo Pek Sung is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with Metro IVF, the RTAC-accredited fertility centre that grew out of an obstetrics and gynaecology practice established in 1989. He completed his medical degree at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and went on to earn Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in the United Kingdom. His practice spans women’s health, fertility care and reproductive medicine.
Over the years Dr. Hoo has built strong expertise in fertility treatment and assisted reproductive technology (ART), alongside minimally invasive gynaecological surgery — laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. He maintains a parallel practice in general obstetrics, including antenatal care, normal delivery and caesarean birth, so patients can stay with one clinician from fertility work-up through to delivery. He has been part of Metro IVF’s reproductive medicine team since the centre began offering fertility services in 2000, when it delivered its first IVF baby.
Dr. Hoo describes his approach as patient-centred and evidence-based: personalised treatment plans for each couple, built on findings from both partners’ investigations rather than a fixed protocol.
Clinical Expertise
- IVF and assisted reproductive technology (ART): full-cycle management from ovarian stimulation and egg collection to embryo culture support and embryo transfer
- Fertility treatment: individualised assessment and management of infertility from ovulatory, tubal, endometriosis-related and unexplained causes
- Laparoscopic surgery: minimally invasive treatment of endometriosis, ovarian cysts and tubal disease to improve the conditions for natural conception or ART
- Hysteroscopic surgery: diagnosis and correction of intrauterine problems such as adhesions, polyps and uterine anomalies that affect embryo implantation
- General obstetrics and gynaecology: antenatal care, normal delivery and caesarean section, providing continuity from conception through birth
Professional Certifications
Dr. Hoo holds the MD from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and MRCOG membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK). MRCOG is an internationally recognised specialist credential: it signals training and clinical judgement assessed against British obstetrics and gynaecology standards, which carries particular weight for international patients considering treatment in Malaysia.
Why Choose Dr. Hoo Pek Sung
MRCOG (UK) certification. Dr. Hoo’s specialist qualification was examined against an international standard, covering both clinical decision-making and surgical technique. For patients comparing clinics across countries, it is a credential that travels.
Surgical correction before or alongside ART. Endometriosis, tubal damage and uterine cavity problems are among the commonest barriers to conception. Because Dr. Hoo performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery himself, these conditions can be assessed and treated within the same practice — improving the starting point before an IVF cycle instead of adding surgical delays through separate referrals.
One clinician from treatment to delivery. Few fertility consultants also run an obstetric practice. Dr. Hoo’s coverage of antenatal care, normal delivery and caesarean birth means couples who succeed in conceiving do not have to hand their pregnancy over to an unfamiliar doctor.
Suitable For
- Couples beginning infertility treatment: an initial consultation with Dr. Hoo maps the full pathway — baseline gynaecological assessment, fertility investigations for both partners, and a decision on whether treatment, surgery or an ART cycle fits first
- Preconception health checks: laparoscopy and hysteroscopy can rule out endometriosis, polyps and adhesions before a couple tries to conceive, with plain-language counselling on the findings
- Patients needing minimally invasive surgery: keyhole treatment of endometriosis, hydrosalpinx and uterine cavity lesions, chosen to protect fertility and shorten recovery
- Antenatal care and delivery: continued supervision through pregnancy, with access to both vaginal birth and caesarean section within the Metro group
