About
Dr. Takeshi Iwabata is the urologist heading the dedicated andrology (male infertility) clinic at Hanaoka IVF Clinic (Shinagawa), where he has seen male patients since 2020. He graduated from Jichi Medical University School of Medicine in 2011 and trained in urology at Jichi Medical University Saitama Medical Center, progressing from resident (2013) to faculty assistant professor (2015) and then to the center’s reproduction program, where he became assistant professor (2017) and lecturer (2022) of its Reproduction Center.
He holds both the urology specialist and supervising-physician certification of the Japanese Urological Association and the reproductive medicine certification of the Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine — an uncommon combination that lets male partners be diagnosed, medicated and operated on inside the same fertility clinic as their partners. When open surgery beyond the clinic’s scope is required, patients are referred smoothly through the clinic’s partnership with Jichi Medical University. The andrology clinic operates on the 2nd and 4th Saturday afternoons (14:00-16:00).
Clinical Expertise
- Male infertility diagnosis and treatment: evaluation and individualized management of oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia, azoospermia and other male-factor conditions
- Andrological surgery: microsurgical sperm retrieval (MESA/TESE) and other male infertility procedures
- Reproductive urology: varicocele, genital tract infections and sexual dysfunction
- Cancer reproductive medicine: Certified Oncofertility Navigator supporting fertility preservation decision-making
- Couple-based care: coordinated assessment with the clinic’s reproductive medicine team so both partners are managed together
Why Choose Dr. Takeshi Iwabata
Many IVF clinics outsource male infertility entirely; at Hanaoka, Dr. Iwabata brings a dual-credentialed urology-and-reproductive-medicine perspective in-house, meaning couples can complete both partners’ evaluation in one visit pathway. His academic post in the Jichi Medical University Reproduction Center keeps him current on assisted andrology techniques, and his supervising-physician designation reflects senior standing in Japanese urology. The Saturday-afternoon clinic schedule is designed so working male patients can attend without conflicting with their partner’s weekday treatment cycle.
