About
Most fertility doctors treat the reproductive system in isolation. Dr. Jovana Lekovich works the other way around: she treats infertility inside the full gynecologic picture. Many of her patients are not simply “unable to conceive”—they also carry fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, or pelvic-floor problems, and Lekovich folds the surgical correction of those issues into the same plan as the fertility cycle rather than handing the patient off to a separate surgeon.
She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine in Serbia, completed her OB-GYN residency at New York Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, and trained in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Cornell’s Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine—pairing an international medical education with one of New York’s top residency and fellowship programs.
As a Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine faculty member and a core member of the RMA team, Lekovich lectures nationally and internationally on infertility, has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and abstracts, and serves on the editorial boards of Andrology, Gynecology Reports, and Epigenetic Diagnosis and Therapy, among other journals.
Clinical Expertise
- IVF and reproductive endocrinology: full-cycle management from ovarian stimulation through egg retrieval and embryo transfer, with individualized protocols tailored to age and diagnosis.
- Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy): treatment of fibroids, endometriosis, and tubal or pelvic disease to improve the uterine and pelvic environment before conception.
- Female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery: management of pelvic-floor dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain in a way that protects fertility while relieving symptoms.
- Complex and recurrent-failure evaluation: a combined surgical, endocrine, and ART lens for patients with repeated implantation failure.
Why Choose Dr. Lekovich
Lekovich has been named a New York Magazine Super Doctor every year since 2018 and is also a Castle Connolly Top Doctor—years of independent recognition that reflects steady clinical and research standing rather than a one-time marketing label.
Her real differentiator is the surgery-plus-fertility combination. Most centers split gynecologic surgery and IVF across different physicians. Because she trained systematically in both pelvic medicine and minimally invasive surgery—earning the AUGS Meritorious Award in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and an AAGL award for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery—she can evaluate and treat the gynecologic issues that affect conception before and after a cycle, sparing patients the delays and dropped handoffs of multi-department referrals.
She also brings that evidence base into individualized planning, with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and active editorial and reviewer roles across several journals.
Professional Affiliations
Lekovich is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and a Fellow of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), and the American Medical Association (AMA). She holds faculty at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Suitable For
- Infertility patients who also need gynecologic surgery: if fibroids, endometriosis, or adhesions are present, she can plan minimally invasive correction around the fertility cycle rather than in a separate track.
- Women with pelvic disease alongside fertility goals: her pelvic-medicine background lets her relieve pain and pelvic-floor problems while protecting the ability to conceive.
- Patients needing laparoscopic evaluation before IVF: a surgery-credentialed reproductive endocrinologist assesses them directly, closing the gap between “operate first, then do IVF elsewhere.”
- Recurrent implantation failure workups: a cross-disciplinary view of surgery, endocrinology, and ART helps surface overlooked uterine and pelvic factors.
