About
Elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, past president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, past president of the World Endometriosis Society, and president of the International Federation of Fertility Societies — an umbrella organization of fertility societies from more than 60 countries. It is rare for one physician-scientist to hold all of those seats, and rarer still in reproductive medicine. At UCSF Center for Reproductive Health, Dr. Linda Giudice brings that standing to a clinical practice focused on endometriosis, adenomyosis, implantation failure and ovulatory disorders.
Her path ran through basic science first: a biochemistry PhD from UCLA, then postdoctoral research at Rockefeller University under Nobel laureate Günter Blobel, before her MD at Stanford, residency training at Stanford and Washington University in St. Louis, and a reproductive endocrinology fellowship at Stanford. She went on to chair Stanford’s Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility division before joining UCSF in 2005.
That basic-science grounding shapes how she practices. Her research on endometrial biology, placental-uterine interactions and environmental effects on reproduction feeds directly into how she evaluates patients with repeated implantation failure — and she was among the first to push environmental factors into mainstream reproductive health research.
Clinical Expertise
- Endometriosis: Full-spectrum care from diagnosis to medical and surgical management, including laparoscopic confirmation and lesion removal
- Adenomyosis: Targeted management strategies that protect future fertility
- Implantation failure: Systematic evaluation and intervention for repeated IVF failure and embryo implantation problems
- Ovulatory disorders: Diagnosis and treatment of anovulation, including PCOS
- Environmental reproductive health: Assessment of how environmental exposures and lifestyle may affect fertility
Why Choose Dr. Linda Giudice
The research bench under the clinical judgment. A biochemistry PhD and a Rockefeller postdoctoral fellowship with a Nobel laureate mean her reading of implantation and endometrial biology runs at the molecular level — an uncommon foundation in a fertility practice.
Leadership at every tier of the field. She has led, or currently leads, the largest professional organization in U.S. reproductive medicine (ASRM), the global endometriosis society, and the international federation of fertility societies. Guidelines and consensus documents in this field pass her desk.
A specialist in the hardest cases. Endometriosis-related infertility, adenomyosis and repeated implantation failure are precisely the diagnoses where standard IVF protocols stall — and they are her named focus areas.

Suitable For
- Endometriosis patients with infertility, pain or recurrent disease: Complex cases that need surgical and medical strategy combined
- Adenomyosis patients: Especially those who still want to carry a pregnancy
- Patients with repeated IVF or implantation failure: Structured evaluation rather than another identical cycle
- Ovulation disorders, including PCOS: Hormonal workup and management grounded in endocrine science
- Patients concerned about environmental exposures: Counseling on toxins and lifestyle factors affecting fertility
