About
Liyun Li, MD wrote the Mandarin instruction sheet for Pacific Fertility Center’s China strategy — literally. In 2014 she spearheaded the development of PFC’s China Patient Program, which has grown every year since and, per the clinic, built a reputation across Asia; she remains the practice’s Mandarin-speaking reproductive endocrinologist, fluent in spoken and written Chinese.
Her training reads like a directory of the country’s top programs: undergraduate at MIT graduating Phi Beta Kappa, MD with honors from Harvard Medical School where she studied stem cell biology, OB/GYN residency at UCSF, then an REI fellowship at Columbia University in New York training under pioneers in IVF and egg donation. Her fellowship research asked a question with direct cycle-management consequences: how obesity and PCOS damage egg and embryo health. She returned to the Bay Area to join PFC on the strength of a simple conviction — that fertility outcomes depend on a trusting partnership between patient and provider — and now treats men and women across the full range of fertility needs. Peer award recognition includes Castle Connolly Top Doctor 2017-2025, Best Doctors in America, and the Best Practicing Physician Research Award at the 2012 Pacific Coast Reproductive Society meeting, where she later served as program co-director for the 2018 PCRS meeting.
Clinical Expertise
- PCOS and endocrine infertility: individualized stimulation protocols for polycystic ovary syndrome, hypothalamic and pituitary dysfunction — the clinical home base of her fellowship research
- Egg freezing and fertility preservation: counseling through vitrification cycles, for both Bay Area professionals and international patients arriving specifically for preservation
- IVF with comprehensive chromosome screening (PGT-A): euploid embryo selection, with third-party options of donor eggs and gestational surrogacy when indicated
- Reproductive surgery: laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures, described in her profile as a skilled surgical practice
- Cross-cultural cycle management: remote consultation, travel-timed monitoring, and Mandarin-language consent and instruction for patients from China and across Asia
Why Choose Dr. Li
Harvard, MIT, Columbia, UCSF — then asked what actually breaks eggs. Her research focused on the obesity-and-PCOS mechanism, not prestige rotation; for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, that is the subspecialty that designs your stimulation protocol.
Care in your first language. Li is the physician PFC points to for Mandarin-speaking patients — consultations, written material, and consent handled without an interpreter in the room, which is where mistruths about dosing and timing usually creep in.
A program, not just a practice. She founded the China Patient Program in 2014 and has run it through more than a decade of growth, a track record in coordinating international cycles end to end.
