About
Dr. Robert Setton did not start in fertility care. He was training in cardiology until he heard his first son’s heartbeat—and decided he wanted to work at the beginning of life rather than its chronic end. That pivot from cardiology to reproductive medicine gave him a meticulous procedural background and an unusually personal empathy for patients who want a child but cannot easily get one.
He studied at CUNY Hunter College on a Macaulay Honors scholarship, earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine, and stayed in the city for residency at Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he served as co-administrative Chief Resident and won the Jerome Seiler Memorial Merit Award for pelvic surgery. He completed his Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship at the same center.
A lifelong Brooklynite, Setton chose to practice in his home borough so that patients from Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Long Island can get high-quality reproductive care without a commute into Manhattan.
Clinical Expertise
- IVF: full-cycle management from stimulation and retrieval through embryo transfer, with individualized protocols.
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): fertility strategies for ovulatory and endocrine imbalance, with careful control of ovarian hyperstimulation risk.
- Egg freezing and fertility preservation: options for women who need to delay childbearing for age, treatment, or personal planning.
- Assisted reproduction for inherited disease: pathways combining donor eggs and third-party reproduction for families facing genetic conditions.
- Pelvic surgery: surgical skill recognized during residency, applied to gynecologic structural issues that affect conception.
Why Choose Dr. Setton
Setton was named a New York Super Doctors Rising Star in 2023 and a Castle Connolly Rising Star in 2022–2023—a physician drawing attention early in his reproductive-medicine career.
One differentiator is surgical depth inside a fertility practice. During Weill Cornell residency he earned the Jerome Seiler Memorial Merit Award in pelvic surgery and served as co-administrative Chief Resident, so he is comfortable managing fibroid, uterine, and pelvic factors and can handle gynecologic issues around a cycle rather than referring them out.
He has delivered more than 20 academic presentations worldwide on frozen embryo transfer, donor-egg cycles, PCOS, fibroids, and IVF, reviews for journals including AJOG, and has worked on in vitro gametogenesis (artificial eggs), a frontier area of reproductive biology. As a Brooklyn native, he has made local access a point of his practice.
Professional Affiliations
Setton is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), with practice affiliations at Brooklyn Hospital Center and the Mount Sinai Health System. His training spans NYU School of Medicine and Weill Cornell.
