About

About

Dr. Shoka Shu is the physician on Yume Clinic’s staff list who was licensed to practise medicine in two countries. She graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in 1997 and went straight into the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Shanghai Yangpu District Central Hospital, where she worked as a practising obstetrician and gynaecologist under her Chinese medical licence. She then moved to Japan, completed doctoral study at Tokyo Medical and Dental University and took her PhD in 2007 — so her clinical years begin in a Chinese hospital, not a Japanese one.

The Japanese career that followed deliberately moved from general gynaecology into reproduction and then into running a clinic. She trained at St. Marianna University Hospital from 2010, joined St. Marianna University’s obstetrics and gynaecology department as an attending physician in 2012, moved to the fertility specialty at Rose Ladies Clinic in 2017 — the year she became a board-certified obstetrician and gynaecologist — served as director of Kyoritsu Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from 2021, and worked at Matsumoto Ladies IVF Clinic, an IVF-focused practice, from 2024 before joining Yume Clinic in 2025. She also holds the Japanese Society for Reproductive Medicine’s reproductive medicine specialist credential.

She is a member of the Japanese Society of Human Genetics and the Japan Society of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Genetic Medicine, and is listed as a co-author on two studies presented at the 31st Congress of the Japan Society for Embryology in January 2026: one on the link between morphological grading of euploid embryos and post-transfer clinical pregnancy, one on sperm-preparation devices in cases with poor blastocyst development. Under the clinic’s September 2025 schedule she performs retrievals and transfers on Thursdays, on the second and fourth Saturdays, and on the second and fourth Sundays, when the clinic runs procedure-only sessions, alongside Thursday and Saturday morning clinics.

Clinical Expertise

  • IVF — performs egg retrieval and embryo transfer, working from cycle day 3 monitoring to the trigger and retrieval date.
  • ICSI — sperm handling and injection for severe male factor; her most recent post before Yume Clinic was at an IVF-specialist clinic where this was routine.
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI) — assessed against semen parameters and tubal status as the step before retrieval-based treatment.
  • Individualised stimulation — the clinic runs no high-stimulation protocols, so dosing is set from AMH, antral follicle count and the previous cycle’s response.
  • Embryo genetics discussion — her human genetics and obstetric-genetic medicine society memberships feed into explaining PGT indications and results.
  • Treating gynaecological disease alongside fertility care — menstrual irregularity, endometrial and uterine problems are assessed inside the same cycle rather than referred away.

Why Choose Dr. Shu

A Chinese-language history, taken directly. Her medical degree and first years of practice were completed in China, which means history taking, protocol explanation and consent can be conducted in Chinese without an interpreter between patient and surgeon. One qualification matters: Yume Clinic publishes its clinical information in Japanese and does not advertise foreign-language consultation, so whether a Chinese-language appointment can actually be booked with her should be confirmed with the clinic at the time of booking.

Two licensing systems, one set of expectations. Because she has practised under both the Chinese and Japanese systems, she can read investigations a patient already had done in China — hormone panels, hysterosalpingography, semen analyses — against what Japanese protocols actually require, which limits the repeat testing that costs international patients both time and money.

Director-level experience in a small clinic. From 2021 to 2024 she was director of Kyoritsu Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. That role is about whether the right patient gets the right slot on the right morning, and it shows up here in a fixed surgical calendar: Thursday retrievals and transfers, plus alternate weekend operating days.

Embryology work that is published, not claimed. The two January 2026 Japan Society for Embryology congress studies she is credited on are the kind of laboratory-adjacent work — euploid embryo morphology, sperm separation in poor blastocyst outcomes — that bears directly on patients with repeated failure, and she presents them as author rather than as an attendee.

Professional Affiliations

Dr. Shu holds an MD from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (1997), a PhD from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (2007), a Chinese medical licence (执业医师), board certification in obstetrics and gynaecology from the Japan Board of Medical Specialties (2017) and the Japanese Society for Reproductive Medicine’s reproductive medicine specialist credential. She is a member of JSOG, the Japanese Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Japan Society for In Vitro Fertilization, the Japanese Society of Human Genetics, the Japanese Society for Women’s Health and the Japan Society of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Genetic Medicine.

Suitable For

  • Chinese-speaking patients who want to brief the surgeon themselves. Her training and early practice were in China; discuss appointment language with the clinic when booking.
  • Severe male factor and ICSI cycles. Her most recent position was at an IVF-focused clinic, and she is an author on sperm-preparation research in poor blastocyst-development cases.
  • Repeated implantation failure needing embryo genetics input. Genetics society membership plus a documented interest in euploid embryo grading, so PGT discussion is continuous rather than split between consultants.
  • Advanced maternal age or low ovarian reserve. Stimulation is kept minimal at this clinic and adjusted to previous response, which suits patients where a standard protocol has already produced a poor or excessive answer.

Best For
