About

About

Dr. Surachai Pornwiroon runs Siam Fertility Clinic as its medical director, and his week divides between consultation, egg collection, embryo transfer and the operating theatre. Before the Phayathai clinic he worked at Vejthani Hospital (2006-2009) as a reproductive and infertility specialist, then at Safe Fertility and Genetic Center (2009-2014), then held the medical director’s chair at First Fertility and PGS Center (2014-2016) — centers Thai and international patients already knew when this clinic opened in 2016.

The training followed the same order. An M.D. with honour from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in 2000; board certification in obstetrics and gynecology from Prince of Songkhla University in 2004; the Sub-Board in Reproductive Medicine back at Siriraj in 2006. Twenty-plus years in Thai ART since, and the clinic’s published schedule still has him consulting from 07:30 on weekdays and from 09:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

The number that summarizes his practice comes from the clinic’s own doctor page: IVF/ICSI with embryo transfer or frozen transfer at more than 700 cycles a year, plus laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery at more than 200 procedures a year. The case mix around those numbers is weighted toward the difficult end — couples whose IUI or prior IVF cycles have not worked, patients using PGT-A because of age, and infertility with a surgical cause such as a blocked or fluid-filled tube.

Clinical Expertise

  • IVF and embryo transfer: full cycle management — protocol choice, stimulation monitoring, retrieval, fertilization, transfer and luteal support — handled by the same physician across all of it
  • ICSI for male factor: single sperm injection, including cycles where sperm had to be retrieved surgically, and where earlier conventional IVF failed to fertilize
  • Frozen embryo transfer: the clinic favours FET over fresh transfer after stimulation, and Dr. Surachai plans the endometrial preparation cycle, OHSS avoidance and transfer timing around it
  • Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery: hydrosalpinx, endometrial polyps, intrauterine adhesions and tubal disease corrected before a transfer cycle rather than referred elsewhere — the 200+ procedures a year figure covers this work
  • Recurrent implantation failure: repeat failures are triaged with uterine cavity assessment and, when timing is suspected, an ERA biopsy to find a displaced implantation window
  • PGT-A decision-making: advising which patients genuinely benefit from chromosome screening of embryos. The clinic’s own statistics page records genetic testing in 71.96% of its 2024 patients, down from 82.20% in 2022, so screening here is a decision made case by case rather than applied to everyone

Why Choose Dr. Surachai Pornwiroon

Cycle volume is the clearest argument. A physician doing 700 transfer cycles and 200 operative procedures a year works through the complications that appear in stimulation — poor response, OHSS risk, a thin lining after triggers, a cavity that turns out to hold adhesions — and can change course mid-treatment without a second referral.

His background also means the surgical and the reproductive halves of an infertility case sit with one physician. A patient with a hydrosalpinx does not have her tube handled by a general gynecologist and then restarted from scratch by a fertility doctor; the correction and the transfer plan are made together, which shortens the distance from diagnosis to pregnancy attempt.

The career record matters for a different reason. First Fertility and PGS Center and Safe Fertility and Genetic Center were two of the better-known names in Bangkok fertility care, and Dr. Surachai led or specialized in both before taking on the leadership of this clinic. Patients choosing a small independent practice over a hospital IVF department are usually weighing exactly that trade — operator experience against institutional scale — and his file reads strongly on the operator side.

Google reviews of the clinic come back to the same two points: that the doctor explains each treatment step in language patients actually follow, and that the nursing and coordination staff stay attentive through the cycle. One reviewer writes plainly about booking a first assessment because they already knew Dr. Surachai’s name — from friends and from online reviews.

Professional Affiliations

The clinic’s doctor page lists three memberships: the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and the Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (APIoR). ESHRE has the most direct bearing on what happens to an embryo here: the clinic states that its senior laboratory staff hold ESHRE certification (Certified Clinical Embryologist 2018, Certified Senior Embryologist 2021). Third-party verification (health-tourism.com) additionally records active membership of the Thai Medical Council and the Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, consistent with his Thai board certification. His individual Thai medical licence number is not published on the clinic website and could not be verified in searchable medical council records.

Suitable For

IVF and ICSI patients who want a surgeon-led clinic — the case for Dr. Surachai is mostly the case for a physician who operates as often as he transfers. If a scan during stimulation turns up a cavity problem, it is handled in the same practice instead of referred out to another doctor.

Male factor infertility — low count, poor motility, abnormal morphology or surgically retrieved sperm are ICSI indications, and his cycle numbers include these routinely. Men with prior fertilization failure on conventional IVF fall into the same group.

Tubal disease and other surgical causes of infertility — blocked or removed tubes, hydrosalpinx, adhesions, polyps and fibroids. Many fertility patients need a procedural step before transfer is worth attempting, and here the same doctor performs it.

Recurrent implantation failure and repeated previous cycles — patients arriving after failed transfers elsewhere are the group most likely to benefit from combined cavity assessment, PGT-A screening and ERA-based timing under one treatment plan.

Patients who need treatment around a busy weekly schedule — clinic hours run 07:30 to 16:30 every day, and his own schedule includes Saturday and Sunday, which suits travelers on a fixed Bangkok window and local patients who cannot take weekday leave.
