About

About

Dr. Grant Schmidt established Ohio Reproductive Medicine in 1987 — the clinic calls itself central Ohio’s first and largest IVF program. He holds a Medical Degree and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, and is board-certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

He trained in chemistry at Bethel College in Kansas, earned both his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Missouri, completed an OB-GYN residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and did his REI fellowship at The Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus.

Schmidt serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University and directs the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at Riverside Methodist Hospitals in Columbus.

Clinical Expertise

  • Full-cycle IVF management: from diagnostic evaluation through stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo culture and transfer — the service line at the practice he founded
  • Complex male factor infertility: the practice treats severe sperm abnormalities with ICSI, and advises genetic testing for men with sperm-related problems before injection cycles
  • Genetic testing: PGT-A, PGT-M and PGT-SR counseling and case selection at ORM, with genetic counselors involved before and after results
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss: ORM runs a defined evaluation protocol — ovarian reserve, uterine anatomy, parental chromosomal analysis, antiphospholipid syndrome, thyroid and prolactin screens

Why Choose Dr. Schmidt

He built the practice. Schmidt established ORM in 1987; the clinic reports more than 35 years of helping patients build families, and SART-listed cycle data goes back to its reporting record (ClinicPKID 2104).

M.D. plus Ph.D. in Biochemistry. His dual doctorate from the University of Missouri underpins a molecular-level read of fertility and reproduction, and he has published extensively on reproductive medicine topics.

Academic and hospital roles beyond the clinic. He teaches as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Ohio State and directs the REI division at Riverside Methodist Hospitals, leading care for patients with complex reproductive needs.

Peer-recognized. Listed in “Who’s Who in the Midwest” and “Who’s Who in Emerging Leaders in America.”

Professional Affiliations

  • Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (FACOG)
  • Member, American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)
  • American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology — OB-GYN, certified 1984
  • American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology — Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, certified 1985

Suitable For

First evaluation: patients arriving without a diagnosis go through ORM’s stepwise workup — semen analysis for the partner and hormone panels for the female patient (TSH, prolactin, testosterone, FSH, AMH, progesterone) — at the practice Schmidt founded, where he has run cycles since 1987.

Complex male factor: his biochemistry training maps directly onto sperm-related cases, where the practice pairs ICSI with pre-cycle genetic counseling.

Genetic risk and repeat loss: families with heritable conditions or two or more miscarriages are the standard candidates for the PGT and recurrent-loss protocols ORM documents.
