About
Dr. Hisayo Kataoka graduated from Tokushima University’s Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed its doctoral program with research on oocyte activation — the biological trigger that sets an egg’s development in motion — giving her a laboratory scientist’s understanding of the fertilization step she now manages clinically. After posts including Takamatsu Municipal Hospital and Yokohama City University Medical Center, she joined Sugiyama Ob-Gyn Clinic Shinjuku in 2020.
She has 30 years’ experience as a physician and 30 in reproductive medicine, and holds the top-tier Specialist and Certified Trainer (Shidai-in) credential of the Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine in addition to her JSOG board certification. Her clinical focus: ovulation induction, IVF, recurrent implantation failure, PGT-A and low AMH.
Clinical Expertise
- Ovulation induction and stimulation design for low responders
- Standard and rescue IVF protocols
- Recurrent implantation failure (RIF) evaluation and management
- PGT-A selection and counseling
- Egg activation and fertilization-failure questions informed by her doctoral research
- Management of advanced maternal age and diminished ovarian reserve
Why Choose Dr. Hisayo Kataoka
Few physicians at the clinic combine 30 straight years of reproductive-medicine practice with a PhD on the biology of the egg itself, and it shows in how she handles difficult retrieval and fertilization cases — the patients other clinics label “poor responders.” Her stated approach is to work alongside each patient’s own way of thinking about treatment, weighing not just the medical options but money and time, and she explicitly invites even small requests to be raised in clinic. For patients who have done “standard” IVF without results and need either an evidence-based adjustment or an honest reframing of the plan, she is one of the clinic’s strongest analysts — accurate diagnosis, swift action, and persistent engagement with hard cases.
