About

About

Egg freezing was not a side interest for Dr. Joseph Doyle — it was his research project. During his reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital he worked on oocyte cryopreservation, the laboratory problem of freezing eggs so that they survive thawing intact and fertilize. He presented that work repeatedly at national and international meetings and published from it. That stretch of Boston training, from residency at Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General through fellowship, produced the clinical habit he brings to Rockville: a patient who wants to freeze eggs, or preserve fertility before chemotherapy, is talking to someone who has spent years on the cell itself.

Doyle is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame before earning his medical degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, then completed residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Massachusetts General Hospital with Harvard Medical School in Boston, followed by the three-year REI fellowship at Massachusetts General. Training came with recognition along the way: an Emans/Goldstein Children’s Hospital of Boston gynecology award and a Harvard Medical School resident teaching award. He also studied healthcare delivery through seminars run with Harvard Business School, an unusual detour for a fertility physician that shows up in how he thinks about getting patients through a cycle without wasted visits.

He divides his practice between Rockville, Maryland and Shady Grove Fertility’s Pennsylvania sites at Wexford and Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Within the ASRM he has developed education modules and served as an ad hoc reviewer for the society — he writes part of the material other reproductive specialists are taught from.

Clinical Expertise

  • Egg freezing and oocyte cryopreservation: his published fellowship research area, from stimulation design through the freeze-thaw step that decides whether a banked egg is usable
  • Fertility preservation for patients facing chemotherapy, radiation or surgery: timing a preservation cycle so it does not delay cancer treatment
  • IVF cycle management: stimulation protocol selection, monitoring, retrieval and transfer planning
  • Diminished ovarian reserve and later family building: how much time a patient actually has, and which step to take first
  • Reproductive medicine education: ASRM module developer and ad hoc reviewer, which keeps him reading the literature rather than only prescribing from it

Why Choose Dr. Joseph Doyle

He trained in the same hospital system where he learned the lab work. Brigham and Women’s / Massachusetts General residency followed by an REI fellowship at Massachusetts General is one continuous Boston training chain, and he collected teaching and clinical excellence awards inside it.

His research is on the exact procedure most elective patients ask about. Oocyte cryopreservation research means he has followed survival and fertilization rates after thawing as a question he had to answer, not a brochure line.

He publishes and reviews. Multiple publications, national and international presentations, ASRM education modules, and ad hoc review work for the society.

Named a top doctor by Washingtonian for a decade straight — Top Doctors for Infertility 2017-2026, then Hall of Fame inductee in 2026. That is a regional list, but a long and consistent one.

Patient review: “Dr. Doyle is a wonderful and experienced provider who supports and believes in his patients.”

Suitable For

  • Patients planning elective egg freezing, whether now or as insurance against a later timeline. Protocol, number of cycles and expected yield get discussed with numbers
  • Cancer patients and others facing gonadotoxic treatment who need preservation completed on an oncology schedule
  • IVF patients who want the reasoning behind their stimulation protocol, especially at 35 and over, where reserve and yield drive every downstream decision
  • Second-opinion visits before committing to a cycle elsewhere — Doyle’s mixed Pennsylvania and Maryland schedule means ask which office you will actually be seen in
