About
Kamaria C. Cayton Vaught, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist at the Johns Hopkins Fertility Center.
Dr. Cayton Vaught earned her MD from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and completed dual fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and medical genetics and genomics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
As a physician-scientist, she was selected for the Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) scholar program (NIH K12). Her research uses CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing to investigate the genetic basis of reproductive function, particularly the gene regulatory pathways governing granulosa cell response to gonadotropins. She is a recent recipient of the Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI) Bayer Innovation Grant.
Clinical Expertise
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Full-cycle management from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer with individualized protocols
- Recurrent Pregnancy Loss: Systematic etiologic evaluation and treatment of repeated miscarriage
- Reproductive Genetics: Integrating genetic testing results into fertility treatment to guide embryo selection and risk assessment
- PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing): Management of PGT-A and PGT-M testing workflows
- Genetic Basis of Female Infertility: Genetic perspectives on ovarian function and fertility potential
Why Choose Dr. Cayton Vaught
Dual fellowship training: Dr. Cayton Vaught completed fellowships in both reproductive endocrinology and infertility and medical genetics and genomics — one of the few REI specialists who directly integrates genetic knowledge into clinical fertility care. For patients with genetic concerns, she provides complete counseling from gene testing through embryo selection.
NIH WRHR scholar: As a selected scholar in the NIH-funded Women’s Reproductive Health Research program, her research capacity has passed national-level review.
Cutting-edge gene editing research: Her CRISPR-Cas9 research targets the molecular basis of ovarian response to gonadotropins — directly informing individualized stimulation protocols for complex ovarian cases.
SRI Bayer Innovation Grant: The peer-reviewed award reflects the innovative value of her research proposal in reproductive science.
Professional Affiliations
Dr. Cayton Vaught is board-certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and holds fellowship training in Medical Genetics and Genomics. She is an NIH Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) scholar and SRI Bayer Innovation Grant recipient.
Suitable For
Patients with recurrent pregnancy loss: She brings a genetic perspective to recurrent miscarriage evaluation, identifying hereditary factors that standard workups may miss.
Patients seeking genetic counseling in fertility treatment: For patients with family history of genetic disorders, chromosomal abnormalities or prior abnormal pregnancies, her dual background provides expert genetic risk assessment and PGT pathways.
Patients with complex female infertility: Her research on the molecular mechanisms of ovarian response supports evidence-based individualized stimulation for complex cases such as poor responders.
Patients interested in reproductive genetics advances: She offers accurate, current interpretation of the latest advances in embryo genetic testing.
