About
Katherine VanHise works on the part of fertility medicine where the immune system fights the pregnancy — a corner of the field she knows from the inside. Diagnosed with lupus herself, she turned that experience into a clinical focus on reproductive immunology, treating patients whose autoimmune conditions complicate conception and miscarriage risk.
She trained through Cedars-Sinai, completing both her OB/GYN residency and her REI fellowship there after medical school at Penn State, where she held a Women’s Health scholarship. As an undergraduate at the University of Rochester she graduated summa cum laude with a double major in biochemistry and classics, and she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Her research follows the same thread of equity and mechanism. She has published first-author work on racial disparities in PCOS in Fertility and Sterility and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, and she is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance — a credential she brings into counseling patients on stress and whole-person care at HRC’s Beverly Hills center.
Clinical Expertise
- Reproductive Immunology: Evaluates and manages infertility where autoimmune disease or immune dysregulation is a factor, an interest grounded in her own history as a lupus patient
- PCOS Diagnosis and Treatment: Individualized metabolic and ovulation management, with published research on how outcomes differ across racial groups
- IVF and Fertility Preservation: Full-cycle management from stimulation through transfer, plus egg freezing for patients deferring pregnancy
- Integrative Support: Incorporates mindfulness and lifestyle counseling alongside standard ART protocols
Why Choose Dr. VanHise
A physician who is also a patient. Her lupus diagnosis is not a footnote — it shapes how she approaches immune-related infertility and how she explains uncertainty to patients navigating it.
Published on a problem others avoid. First-author work on racial disparities in PCOS puts her among the clinicians actively studying why fertility outcomes are uneven, not just treating them one cycle at a time.
Cedars-Sinai through and through. Both residency and fellowship at one of the country’s leading centers, with summa cum laude academic credentials behind it.
Professional Affiliations
Board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology; member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Undergraduate honors include Phi Beta Kappa and Eta Sigma Phi, with the Seward Memorial Scholarship in Women’s Health and Cedars-Sinai resident research and patient-safety awards during training.
