About
Kristin Van Heertum took the long way into reproductive medicine — through a Columbia University degree in neuroscience and behavior, then Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, an OB/GYN residency at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health, and a reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center with Case Western Reserve University. Board certification followed at both levels: obstetrics and gynecology, then the REI subspecialty.
She joined the Nashville Fertility Center partners, and her reason is on the clinic’s own page: “When I found Nashville Fertility Center, I was impressed by the team. All the partners are so knowledgeable and kind. I realized it’s where I wanted to practice reproductive medicine.” Her second statement does the job of a treatment philosophy: “I look at each patient as a unique person, not a fertility diagnosis. I develop fertility treatment plans that address each patient’s physical, emotional and financial needs.”
She practices out of the Nashville and Clarksville offices, which makes her the clinic’s physician for patients in Middle Tennessee’s northwestern corner. Her named clinical areas run from IVF and fertility surgery to PCOS, fertility preservation, LGBTQ+ fertility care, recurrent pregnancy loss and fibroids, and she has published peer-reviewed work presented at national meetings.
Clinical Expertise
- IVF and ICSI: cycle management inside a CAP/ASRM-accredited laboratory environment at Ovation Nashville
- Fertility surgery: laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures for the anatomic causes of infertility
- PCOS: individualized ovulation induction and longer-horizon endocrine management
- Fertility preservation: egg freezing for elective and medical indications
- LGBTQ+ family building: donor-gamete paths and reciprocal options within Tennessee’s legal framework
- Recurrent pregnancy loss: structured workup rather than repeat-and-hope
Why Choose Dr. Van Heertum
A neuroscience route to the reproductive tract. Understanding signaling systems is her undergraduate training, and it is an unusual back-story among fertility physicians — one her patients on hormone-based protocols may find worth knowing.
LGBTQ+ care is a listed focus, not a footnote. Nashville Fertility Center markets an explicit LGBTQIA+ service path; among its physicians, Van Heertum is the one whose profile names LGBTQ+ fertility care as a clinical area.
She covers Clarksville. Monitoring cycles require frequent same-morning scans; at the Weatherly Drive office, patients in Middle Tennessee’s northwestern corner avoid the round trip to Nashville on appointment days.
Fellowship at a center built on research. University Hospitals Cleveland/Case Western is a high-volume REI training program; her publication and national-meeting record carried forward from it.

- Second, third or fourth loss patients who want the recurrent-pregnancy-loss workup done properly
