About
Dr. Leong Wai Yew is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and fertility specialist at Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists, qualified as an O&G specialist since 2007. He graduated in medicine from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1999 and returned to UKM for his Master of Medicine in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, completing it in 2007 during a career in the National Health Service.
After qualifying, he served as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban — the main public hospital for Negeri Sembilan state — where a state-level referral workload means everything from routine deliveries to high-risk obstetrics and gynaecological emergencies passes through the specialist clinic. That general foundation shapes his fertility practice: he is trained to find the whole-patient problem, not just read the reproductive numbers.
With more than 15 years of specialist experience, he now combines public-hospital diagnostic thoroughness with Alpha IVF’s ART capabilities, working in a “diagnose fully first, treat precisely second” style.
Clinical Expertise
- Systematic diagnosis of undiagnosed infertility: staged workup from baseline gynaecological examination through reproductive endocrine assessment, catching conditions that earlier symptom-led consultations missed
- IUI and IVF treatment planning: translating a complete diagnosis into proportionate assisted-reproduction choices, from the least invasive effective option upward
- Benign gynaecological disease with infertility: evaluating fibroids, ovarian cysts and cervical pathology, and deciding what must be treated — and what must simply be monitored — before conception attempts continue
- Advanced-age preconception assessment: ovarian reserve, uterine receptivity and general health review for women 35 and above before committing to a treatment strategy
Why Choose Dr. Leong
UKM’s O&G master’s programme trains across gynaecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology, maternal-fetal medicine and operative laparoscopy, and his post-qualification years at a state public hospital delivered high-volume, high-variety case exposure. The practical benefit for an infertility patient is diagnostic sensitivity: conditions that masquerade as “unexplained” — subtle uterine pathology, endocrine disorder, early ovarian ageing — are more likely to be recognised and named before money and cycles are spent.
His style suits patients who arrive without a clear answer. Rather than repeating tests another centre already ordered, he re-reads the whole picture and sequences treatment deliberately. Alpha IVF’s model allocates him sufficient first-consultation time per patient, so that individualised review is realistic rather than aspirational. He also consults in Chinese for local and international Mandarin-speaking patients.
