About
Two things are true about Dr. Marli Amin’s Long Beach practice that are not true of most of her colleagues in private fertility care: she holds a university faculty appointment, and she has been honored by the state legislature. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Irvine, where she teaches and mentors resident physicians, and she received a Women of Distinction Award from California Assembly Member Patrick O’Donnell, representing the 70th District, which covers Long Beach and its neighbors.
The teaching runs backward in time as well. During her UC Irvine residency she was given the ARISE Star Performer Award, an honor for academic accomplishment, integrity, service and excellence — the kind of recognition that comes from a training program rather than a marketing firm. She completed a three-year Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship at UCLA in 2015 after residency in 2012, and holds dual board certification in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and in obstetrics and gynecology. Her undergraduate record at UC San Diego pairs a physiology degree with a bachelor’s in German literature, and her MD is from the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
She contributes scientifically at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and at the Western Association of Gynecologic Oncologists, and has written for medical journals and textbooks — the gynecologic oncology society connection is a tell about where her interests graze, since that is the audience for fertility-preserving care in cancer patients. Her published patient-facing recognition includes Los Angeles Magazine Super Doctor and Castle Connolly Top Doctors. In the practice’s own patient stories, a couple describes two-mom family building under Amin’s care — the diagnostic workup, clear explanations and follow-through they credit with their daughter’s arrival — and says they now recommend RPMG to LGBTQ+ friends asking about family planning.
Clinical Expertise
- IVF cycle management: stimulation, monitoring, sedated retrieval, fertilization by insemination or ICSI, blastocyst culture and transfer, with individualized protocols for prior non-responders
- IUI with partner or donor sperm: monitored cycles for unexplained infertility, mild male factor, and donor sperm family building for single patients and same-sex couples
- Egg and embryo freezing: vitrification for elective and medical preservation, with counseling on how many eggs to bank for a given age and reserve
- LGBTQ+ family building: donor insemination, reciprocal approaches where one partner provides eggs and the other carries, and gestational carrier coordination under California law
- Diminished ovarian reserve and advanced maternal age: response assessment and realistic cycle planning
- Resident education at UC Irvine: the teaching appointment keeps her current on the same guidelines the trainees are tested on
Why Choose Dr. Marli Amin
Dual board certification plus a faculty appointment. Certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and on staff at a medical school teaching residents — the combination most patients cannot verify on a private-practice profile.
Recognition from physicians and from government. Los Angeles Magazine Super Doctor and Castle Connolly Top Doctors are peer-nominated; the Women of Distinction Award came from the California State Assembly.
An award-winning resident. The ARISE Star Performer Award marks the years when her own training program had the best view of her.
She presents at a gynecologic oncology society as well as ASRM, which is directly relevant to patients who need fertility preserved before cancer treatment.
