About

About

Before medical school, Melanie Evans completed a bachelor’s and a master’s in electrical engineering at Southern Methodist University and trained with the Houston Ballet’s pre-professional company. She then did all of her clinical training at one institution: MD at UT Southwestern in 2011, ob/gyn residency at UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital, where she was administrative chief resident, and the reproductive endocrinology fellowship there in 2018. Engineering training is not a party trick in a fertility practice — it is the reason she ended up in the technically hardest corner of the field, where outcomes depend on protocol arithmetic and on laboratory technique rather than on prescribing.

That corner is fertility preservation and reproductive surgery. During fellowship she worked closely with the minimally invasive gynecologic surgery unit and with pediatric gynecology, which is where two specific skills came from: surgery on Mullerian anomalies (a septate or otherwise maldeveloped uterus, which has to be corrected before an embryo can be expected to implant and stay), and ovarian tissue cryopreservation. Tissue freezing is the preservation route for a patient who cannot afford the weeks a stimulation cycle takes before chemotherapy starts, and it is still comparatively rare in US practice. It is on her list.

She divides her week between the Plano office at West Parker Road, which has its own IVF laboratory since 2021, and the Baylor Medical Pavilion office in east Dallas. Her research has been presented at ASRM meetings and comes out of UT Southwestern’s Cecil and Ida Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences, and she was elected to the Golden Humanism honor society, which is chosen for clinical conduct rather than scores.

Clinical Expertise

  • Ovarian tissue cryopreservation: for patients whose cancer treatment cannot wait for a full stimulation cycle
  • Egg and embryo freezing: preservation before chemotherapy or radiation, and elective freezing for planned later childbearing
  • Mullerian anomaly surgery: hysteroscopic septum resection and uterine reconstruction, with imaging workup before and after
  • Reproductive laparoscopy and hysteroscopy: adhesions, polyps, tubal disease and endometriosis addressed with an eye to preserving reserve, particularly before ovarian surgery
  • Diminished ovarian reserve in younger patients: protocols and expectations for women under 40 who produce fewer eggs than their age predicts
  • IVF cycle management: stimulation through transfer, with an engineer’s approach to dose arithmetic
  • LGBTQ+ family building: donor insemination, IVF with donor egg, and known-donor pathways for female couples and single patients

Why Choose Dr. Melanie Evans

The preservation option most clinics cannot offer. Ovarian tissue freezing is a specific surgical and laboratory skill, and she trained in it during fellowship at UT Southwestern. For a young cancer patient, that can be the only available route.

Surgery that protects future eggs. Ovarian cyst surgery done carelessly lowers AMH. Her minimally invasive surgery training is aimed exactly at that trade-off, and she does the cavity surgery that determines whether a transfer has anywhere to implant.

One institution, all the way through: MD, residency as administrative chief resident and fellowship at UT Southwestern, with research presented at ASRM from the Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences, and election to the Golden Humanism honor society.

Professional Affiliations

Board-certified reproductive endocrinologist, subspecialty-trained in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, completing her entire clinical training at UT Southwestern Medical Center with residency at Parkland Hospital. Member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, with research presented at ASRM annual meetings and conducted through UT Southwestern’s Cecil and Ida Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences. Golden Humanism honor society.

Suitable For

  • Patients about to start chemotherapy or radiation, where preservation has to be arranged in days rather than a cycle
  • Women told they have a uterine septum or other Mullerian anomaly, especially after a miscarriage or failed transfer
  • Under-40 patients with low reserve, who need a protocol built for their numbers
  • LGBTQ+ patients and female couples building a family with donor sperm or donor eggs

Best For

Cancer patients needing preservation before chemotherapy or radiation Patients with a septate or otherwise malformed uterus Low ovarian reserve in women under 40 LGBTQ+ family building, including known-donor and donor-sperm paths
