About
Michael Wittenberger spent 27 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy and retired as a captain. Along the way he ran the reproductive endocrinology and infertility program at the Naval Medical Center San Diego — a role that fused clinical medicine with the logistics, standards and discipline of running a service line under real constraints. He brings that to HRC Fertility’s Carlsbad and San Diego clinics.
He graduated from Colorado State University with a 4.0 GPA in the university’s honors program and was selected early into Alpha Omega Alpha at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, collecting several basic-science achievement awards. After residency in OB/GYN at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and five years caring for military families in Japan, he completed an REI fellowship through the NIH / Uniformed Services graduate training program, then returned to San Diego to lead REI there and teach as an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and as faculty for the UC San Diego REI fellowship.
His research spans FMR1 premutation and reproduction, embryo-transfer training, and cost analysis of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. He has also completed formal training in medical acupuncture at Berkeley’s Helms Medical Institute.
