About

About

Mika R. Thomas is a Dallas native who went the local route and came back: an honors bachelor’s in biological sciences at Southern Methodist University, an MD from the University of Texas at San Antonio, ob/gyn residency in Phoenix at Maricopa Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital, then a reproductive endocrinology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, finishing in 2016. She holds both certifications — the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in obstetrics and gynecology, and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility — and she is one of the small number of REI specialists in this group who list male factor infertility as their own clinical focus rather than handing it to a urologist.

Her research started early and was noticed. As a medical student she worked on endometriosis, and the results were published on the cover of Fertility and Sterility, the leading peer-reviewed journal in reproductive medicine. She was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor medical society that selects a small fraction of each graduating class, and she carried a full scholarship through medical school and fellowship. Undergraduate honors included Golden Key national honor society membership and selection as one of Mortar Board’s top ten sophomores.

She practices at the Glen Lakes office in south Dallas, next to the practice’s main IVF laboratory, which is where the time-lapse culture and embryo work happens. Her day-to-day case mix reflects her three stated interests: PCOS with its metabolic component, diminished reserve in patients who produce few eggs, and couples whose infertility has a male cause.

Clinical Expertise

  • PCOS: ovulation induction layered from oral agents to injectables, with attention to the insulin and metabolic side of the syndrome, and IVF when timed treatments do not work
  • Diminished ovarian reserve: protocols designed for low egg yield, with honest counseling about how many retrievals a given AMH and antral count realistically support
  • Male factor infertility: semen parameters, hormonal evaluation and the decision point where ICSI, surgical sperm retrieval or donor sperm becomes the right answer
  • Tubal factor infertility: whether to repair surgically or bypass the tubes with IVF, argued from the specific blockage rather than from habit
  • PGT-A counseling: which patients actually benefit from embryo chromosome screening, and what a “euploid” result does and does not promise
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss and reproductive surgery: evaluation of losses, plus hysteroscopic and laparoscopic assessment

Why Choose Dr. Mika R. Thomas

Two board certifications, not one. Dual ABOG certification in ob/gyn and REI means she is credentialed for the general gynecologic problem that shows up mid-cycle as well as the fertility treatment itself.

Couple-level care. Naming male factor infertility as a personal specialty is uncommon for a reproductive endocrinologist. Practically, the male partner gets evaluated by the physician who will design the cycle around his results.

Published work that was cover-selected. An endometriosis study in Fertility and Sterility as a student, plus AOA election, is a research record rather than a line on a brochure.

Professional Affiliations
