About
Prof. Dr. Jayabalan A/L Valliapan is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and reproductive medicine specialist at Metro IVF Ipoh, and one of the pioneers of reproductive medicine in the Ipoh region — he was instrumental in establishing the first infertility service in the area. He brings more than 25 years of clinical experience across obstetrics, gynaecology and fertility care.
He obtained his MBBS from Manipal Medical College, India, and completed postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology at University Malaya. His reproductive medicine subspecialty was built through fellowships at the Rotunda Fertility Centre in Mumbai, a Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine under the HUKM–Ministry of Health Malaysia programme, and a Fellowship in Assisted Reproductive Technology at Chiang Mai University, alongside a Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS) in New Delhi.
Prof. Dr. Jayabalan served government hospitals for 15 years, contributing significantly to the National ART Implementation Committee, before moving into private practice in 2009. He currently practises at Metro IVF Ipoh and as a visiting consultant at Pantai Hospital Ipoh and LPPKN, and holds a visiting professorship in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Quest International University. In 2018 he was awarded the Paduka Mahkota Perak (PMP) by the Sultan of Perak for his public service.

- Laparoscopic and minimal-access surgery: tubal surgery, ovarian cystectomy and endometriosis surgery underpinned by his FMAS fellowship

- General obstetrics and gynaecology: preconception care, pregnancy management and gynaecological disease
Why Choose Prof. Dr. Jayabalan Valliapan
As one of the first doctors to build an infertility service in Ipoh, he offers northern Malaysia’s most experienced local reproductive specialist — patients avoid travelling to Kuala Lumpur for IVF consultations. Fifteen years in the public system, including work on the National ART Implementation Committee, give him first-hand authority on Malaysia’s regulatory framework for assisted reproduction. His combination of an ART fellowship and a minimal-access surgery fellowship is rare: he can treat surgically correctable pathology and run IVF cycles himself rather than referring between two specialists. Academically, he has organised workshops and symposiums at international, national and state levels, and his teaching professorship keeps practice current. The PMP state honour reflects two and a half decades of recognised service to maternal and reproductive health in Perak.
Professional Affiliations
Prof. Dr. Jayabalan is a life member of the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WALS), state representative for the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM), Perak State Chairman of the Malaysian Research & Development Committee, and Vice President of the Perak Family Health Association.
Suitable For
- Infertility patients in Ipoh and northern Malaysia: resident-level access to senior IVF and laparoscopic expertise without travelling to the Klang Valley.
- Couples needing a complete reproductive evaluation: dual obstetrics-gynaecology and reproductive medicine skills support a full diagnostic chain from basic tests to advanced ART.
- Advanced maternal age and complex infertility cases: 25+ years of practice and national ART committee exposure inform realistic, individualised protocols for difficult presentations.
- Patients who may benefit from laparoscopic surgery: FMAS-trained, he can plan and perform fertility-sparing keyhole surgery and follow through with IVF treatment in one continuous pathway.
