About
Ray Tsai, Ph.D., HCLD is the Laboratory Director for Shady Grove Fertility Richmond and SGF Jones Institute, holding High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) certification from the American Board of Bioanalysis. He is responsible for the embryology operations and quality assurance of two IVF laboratories.
Dr. Tsai completed his early education in Taiwan — a bachelor’s degree in Radiological Science and Technology from National Yang-Ming University (NYMU) and a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) — before earning his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He then completed a Reproductive Sciences T32 postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Dr. Tsai joined SGF as an embryologist in 2013 and now directs the IVF laboratories at both SGF Richmond (Stony Point) and the Jones Institute in Norfolk. His research interests include endometrial receptivity and cell division, with publications in Reproductive Sciences and Biology of Reproduction.
