About
Several of the milestones that defined American assisted reproduction carry Richard Paulson’s name. He helped deliver the first birth in the United States from a frozen embryo, showed that egg donation could enable pregnancy in women of advanced reproductive age, pioneered natural-cycle IVF, was first to use GnRH antagonists in IVF, and reported the first pregnancies in women over fifty. These were not incremental papers; they redrew what clinicians believed possible.
He has directed USC Fertility since 1986 and leads the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as professor at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, practicing across four decades. The field has handed him its institutional keys as well: past president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the Pacifica Coast Reproductive Society; past ABOG examiner; and Editor-in-Chief of Fertility & Sterility Reports, having previously served as deputy editor of Fertility and Sterility.
He has been named to Best Doctors in America continuously since 1994 and received the American Fertility Association’s Howard and Georgeanna Jones Lifetime Achievement Award. He practices at HRC Fertility’s Pasadena location.
