About
Roy Handelsman came to fertility medicine sideways, through computer engineering. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara with honors in the subject, and he treats recurrent pregnancy loss the way an engineer debugs a system: trace the cause, change one variable, observe. That methodical bent anchors his clinical focus on the genetic causes of repeat miscarriage, PCOS, and preimplantation genetic testing.
He switched to medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he earned his MD and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, then completed OB/GYN residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and his REI fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Magee-Womens Hospital — one of the country’s flagship women’s hospitals. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Colleagues describe his practice by how it feels to patients as much as what it measures: clear explanation, close attention to detail, and empathetic care. He works in English and Hebrew across HRC Fertility’s Encino and Westlake Village clinics.
Clinical Expertise
- Recurrent Pregnancy Loss: Evaluation of genetic and systemic causes after repeated miscarriage
- PGT-A (Embryo Genetic Screening): A named research and clinical interest, applied to individual cases
- PCOS: Endocrine and metabolic management
- IVF and Fertility Preservation: Egg freezing and full-cycle assisted reproduction for women and couples
Why Choose Dr. Handelsman
An engineer’s method on hard cases. A computer-engineering foundation that shapes how he works up recurrent loss rather than defaulting to empiric repetition.
Flagship training on both ends. Cedars-Sinai residency and Magee-Womens fellowship, AOA in medical school.
Genetics-forward care. Research concentrated on the heritable drivers of miscarriage and embryo selection.
