About
Sara Barton is one of the few reproductive endocrinologists in Denver who runs patient visits in Spanish, and one of fewer who holds two board certifications — obstetrics and gynecology, and the reproductive endocrinology and infertility subspecialty — rather than one. She joined CCRM Colorado in 2016 after a stretch in Omaha that combined private fertility practice with an assistant professorship in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Her research sits closest to the patients she sees most: preserving fertility in people whose reproductive function is threatened by illness. She has published papers and book chapters on fertility preservation and on reproduction in cancer survivors, plus work on optimizing stimulation protocols and on fertility treatment for same-sex and gender-diverse patients. Training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital — NYU medical school, then Harvard-affiliated residency and fellowship there — gave her the academic endocrinology base for that writing.
Clinically that combination makes her the natural referral inside the practice for two groups: patients newly diagnosed with cancer who need eggs or embryos banked before treatment starts, and LGBTQ+ patients and single patients building families with donor sperm, donor eggs or a gestational carrier. Her CCRM Network Physician Award for Patient Centered Care is the practice’s own recognition of the counseling half of that work. Castle Connolly and 5280 list her among top Denver-area physicians. Note that her profile currently shows her not accepting new patients.
Clinical Expertise
- Fertility preservation and oncofertility: urgent egg, embryo and sperm banking before chemotherapy or radiation, an area where she has published
- LGBTQ+ family building: reciprocal IVF between partners, donor sperm and donor egg pathways, and gestational carrier planning
- Bilingual care: full fertility consultations and cycle teaching delivered in Spanish
- Stimulation protocol optimization: published work on tailoring gonadotropin strategies, including for reduced reserve
- IVF, ICSI and PGT-A: cycle management with embryo genetic screening through CCRM’s in-house laboratory
- Endometrial receptivity and implantation timing: assessment before transfer in patients with prior failures
- Donor egg and gestational carrier cycles: third-party reproduction coordination
Why Choose Dr. Sara Barton
Two certifications, one physician. Generalist OB-GYN training plus REI subspecialty certification means the surgical and obstetric side of a chart is not foreign to her.
Care in the patient’s own language. Spanish-language consultations remove a layer of explanation that no printed after-visit summary fixes.
She wrote the literature she practices. Fertility preservation in cancer survivors and treatment for same-sex and gender-diverse patients are publication topics for her, not a brochure line.
A patient-centeredness prize from her own network. The CCRM Network Physician Award for Patient Centered Care comes from inside the organization, which is a harder audience to satisfy than a magazine list.
