About
Dr. Akitsugu Kokiguchi is the director of Hanabusa Women’s Clinic’s Sannomiya main hospital in Kobe. He graduated from Miyazaki Medical University in 1984 and joined Okayama University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, earning his Doctor of Medicine (PhD) in 1992.
Before arriving at Hanabusa, he built his practice in the OB-GYN departments of Kochi Prefectural Central Hospital and Kobe Saiseikai Hospital, where as department head he developed a strong gynecological endoscopic surgery program and introduced mind-body integrative care, including yoga classes for patients. He joined Hanabusa Women’s Clinic in 2004, became vice director in 2005 and has served as director since March 2013.
Dr. Kokiguchi holds one of the country’s largest case series in falloscopic tubal cannulation (FT) — a patented-catheter procedure available at only about 20 Japanese institutions, with recanalization rates above 80% as a day case under insurance — and has presented FT research at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and Japanese academic meetings. He also chairs the hospital’s ISO quality committee.
Clinical Expertise
- FT tubal cannulation (falloscopy): patented catheter system for opening blocked fallopian tubes — 80%+ recanalization, day-case procedure, covered by Japanese insurance; one of the highest volumes in Japan
- Gynecological endoscopic surgery: extensive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic experience developed as a hospital OB-GYN department head
- IVF and embryo transfer: full-cycle management from ovarian stimulation through transfer
- Integrative medicine: applies a mind-body care philosophy, incorporating complementary approaches such as yoga into infertility treatment
- Quality management: as ISO committee chair, leads the clinic’s standardized quality systems and patient-satisfaction programs
Why Choose Dr. Kokiguchi
For tubal-factor infertility, surgical option matters: rather than moving every patient straight to IVF, Dr. Kokiguchi offers FT — a minimally invasive, insurance-covered day procedure that can restore natural fertility, performed by one of only a handful of Japanese doctors with major experience. His academic recognition (2009 Hyogo Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology prize) and presentations at ASRM show the depth behind the volume, and his ISO leadership means patients are treated inside a formally audited quality system.
Professional Affiliations
Dr. Kokiguchi holds a Doctor of Medicine from Okayama University and is a Board-Certified Specialist and Guidance-Trained (supervisor) Specialist of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Reproductive Medicine Specialist of the Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine, a Certified Clinical Genetic Specialist, and a designated physician under the Maternal Protection Law. He received the 2009 prize of the Hyogo Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

- Patients seeking minimally invasive surgery — decades of endoscopic experience reduce physical burden and recovery time.
- Patients needing comprehensive infertility care — from baseline testing through IVF and tubal surgery, one physician can map the full treatment strategy.
