About

About

Dr. Takashi Horikawa is Director of Reproductive Medicine at Sugiyama Ob-Gyn Clinic Shinjuku. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus in 1999 and moved into fertility research early in his career, studying the relationship between aging and infertility at what is now the National Center for Child Health and Development from 2004.

In 2009 he became director of Takasaki ART Clinic, where he personally performed more than 2,500 natural-cycle, anesthesia-free egg retrievals per year. He joined Sugiyama Ob-Gyn Clinic in 2018 to lead reproductive medicine at the Shinjuku clinic, and now holds 26 years of clinical experience with 24 years focused on fertility care.

Dr. Horikawa is unusual in the field for holding a certified embryologist qualification alongside his physician board certifications, which gives him a lab-side perspective on egg quality, culture conditions, and embryo transfer technique.

Clinical Expertise

  • IVF in all its forms, with particular depth in mild-stimulation and natural-cycle protocols
  • Anesthesia-free egg retrieval and embryo transfer performed with a gentle, high-precision technique
  • PGT-A (preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy)
  • Management of difficult retrievals and difficult embryo transfers
  • Treatment strategies for low AMH and diminished ovarian reserve
  • Evidence-based selection of treatment options over one-size-fits-all protocols

Why Choose Dr. Horikawa

Dr. Horikawa’s hands-on record is exceptional: over 20,000 egg retrievals across his career, and thousands more per year at peak as clinic director. That volume translates into calm, reliable technique — he is specifically known for sure but gentle procedures and highly accurate embryo transfers, which matters most for patients with anatomically difficult cases or low ovarian reserve. He also respects what patients want and communicate well in consultation, so even complex protocol decisions are made together. His dual identity as a board-certified instructor and certified embryologist means treatment plans are informed by both the clinic room and the laboratory bench.
