About
Dr. Tetsuo Maruyama is Director of Reproductive Endocrinology, Genetics and Endoscopic Surgery at Sugiyama Ob-Gyn Clinic Shinjuku, a position he took up in 2023. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Keio University in 1986, trained at Keio University Hospital, spent a research period in the United States, and rose to Associate Professor at Keio University School of Medicine before joining Sugiyama.
With 39 years of clinical experience devoted entirely to reproductive medicine, he is one of the few physicians in Japan holding advanced certifications across several disciplines at once: reproductive medicine instruction, endoscopic surgery, clinical genetics, endocrinology and metabolism, and perinatal medicine.
Colleagues and patients note the same quality in his consultations: few gray zones. Diagnostic reasoning is explicit, and treatment direction is stated clearly.
Clinical Expertise
- Ovulation induction and management of ovulatory and endocrine disorders
- Recurrent implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage work-up
- Operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for endometriosis, fibroids and uterine pathology
- Genetic counseling for fertility and family-planning decisions
- PGT (preimplantation genetic testing) indication and interpretation
- Perinatal medicine background supporting the full path from conception to pregnancy care
Why Choose Dr. Maruyama
Dr. Maruyama offers what most single-specialist clinics cannot: one physician who can evaluate the hormonal, anatomical, and genetic dimensions of a difficult infertility case and operate if needed. Before leading Sugiyama’s Shinjuku department he served as Associate Professor at Keio University, so his practice sits on a deep academic foundation. Patients consistently receive clear, decisive treatment plans — his consulting style is described as having few ambiguous zones — which is especially valuable in complex, multi-factor cases where uncertainty itself is the burden.
