About

About

Most fertility specialists can order an immune workup. William Kutteh holds the credential that reads it: he is board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and in Immunology, on top of a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Immunology from Wake Forest University, where he also earned his M.D. in 1985. He co-directs the Center for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss at Fertility Associates of Memphis, the practice whose legal and SART registration — Kutteh Ke Fertility Associates of Memphis, PLLC — carries his name next to his colleague Raymond Ke’s.

His training sequence explains the three certifications. Wake Forest for the combined M.D. and Ph.D., obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Alabama, then a reproductive endocrinology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas from 1989 to 1991. He stayed at UT Southwestern as Director of IVF until 1996, when he moved to Memphis to become Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Tennessee. A North Carolina native, he has practiced reproductive medicine continuously since completing training in 1991 — longer than any other physician at the clinic.

He has written more than 200 publications and has lectured internationally. Recognition in his field has been continuous rather than occasional: one of Memphis’ Best Doctors every year since 1999, a Best Doctor in America annually since 2001, and one of America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists every year since 2002.

Clinical Expertise

  • Recurrent pregnancy loss evaluation: indicated after two or more losses before 20 weeks; FAM’s published workup covers chromosomal or genetic abnormalities in one or both partners, uterine structural problems such as fibroids, polyps, scar tissue and septa, progesterone deficiency, untreated thyroid disease, diabetes, immune system and blood-clotting disorders, and lifestyle factors
  • Immune and clotting causes: the branch of the workup where an immunology certification does real work, and where Kutteh’s dual M.D./Ph.D. training is the practice’s asset
  • Loss of unexplained origin: the clinic states plainly that the most common finding after a full evaluation is no finding at all; his role is deciding whether to monitor a next pregnancy closely, add hormone supplementation, operate on a uterine structure, or move to IVF
  • IVF with PGT after loss: where a chromosomal abnormality is identified in a parent, or where losses keep recurring without cause, transferring chromosomally normal embryos selected by PGT is the treatment path FAM publishes — coordinated with the practice’s Director of Reproductive Genetics
  • Repeated IVF failure: evaluation for the causes that make cycles fail rather than repeating the same protocol
  • Academic medicine and mentoring: he directs research collaborations at FAM, including studies with Sierra Bishop on fertility preservation in young cancer patients, recurrent loss and reproductive infection outcomes

Why Choose Dr. William Kutteh

An immunologist who is also a reproductive endocrinologist. Triple certification — REI, OB/GYN and Immunology — is rare enough in American fertility practice that it is the reason a patient with a clotting or immune history gets an opinion rather than another negative test panel.

He built academic IVF programs before this one. Directing IVF at UT Southwestern and then chairing the University of Tennessee’s reproductive endocrinology division is program-building experience at two medical schools, not just clinical volume.

More than 200 publications, and 35 years of continuous practice. Practicing reproductive medicine since completing his fellowship in 1991, with international lecturing, and with Sierra Bishop’s research at FAM conducted under his mentorship.

He is a name partner in the reporting entity. The SART registration that publishes this clinic’s 58.8% live birth rate per intended retrieval under 35 is filed under his surname, which is a different position from a physician employed by someone else’s practice.

Three rankings, unbroken, in the clinic’s own account. Memphis Best Doctor since 1999, Best Doctor in America since 2001, America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists since 2002. Only Raymond Ke matches the 1999 start, and Ke’s third distinction is national rather than local.

Professional Affiliations

Board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and certified in Immunology. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Immunology, Wake Forest University. Former Director of IVF at UT Southwestern Medical School and former Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Tennessee. Co-Director of the Center for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss at Fertility Associates of Memphis, a SART-member practice whose single-site registration reports cycle outcomes to SART and the CDC, and where his name appears in the legal entity name. He has lectured internationally and authored more than 200 publications.

Suitable For

  • Two or more miscarriages: the standard threshold for a recurrent loss evaluation, run by the center’s co-director
  • Losses with an immune or clotting history: immune system and blood-clotting causes — both named in FAM’s published loss workup — read by a physician certified in immunology
  • Unexplained recurrent loss: a physician who will say the workup found nothing, then plan close monitoring and a defined next step rather than more testing
  • Repeated IVF failure: causes reconsidered before another cycle is started
  • Structural uterine findings: septum, fibroids, scar tissue or polyps discovered during loss workup, referred inside the practice to the MIGS surgeon
  • Chromosomal rearrangement carriers: PGT-SR planning with the practice’s reproductive genetics director

Best For

Patients with two or more pregnancy losses before 20 weeks Recurrent loss cases where immune or clotting causes were never worked up Repeated IVF failure with no explanation Carriers of a chromosomal rearrangement considering PGT-SR Secondary infertility with a loss history
