About

About

More than 33,000 babies have been born at the Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine since 1988 — every one of them under the direction of Zev Rosenwaks, M.D., who built CRM from a young program into one of the world’s leading reproductive endocrinology centers and holds its Revlon Distinguished Professorship in Reproductive Medicine, named for him in 1994.

Before running his own center, Rosenwaks trained and then served as a division director at the Jones Institute in Norfolk, Virginia — the site of the first IVF pregnancy in the United States, under Howard and Georgeanna Jones. In 1988 he founded America’s first donor egg program, which remains a core pathway at CRM for women with diminished ovarian reserve, genetic disease risk or no usable eggs of their own. He has helped shape modern ovarian stimulation protocols and has pushed modified, lower-intensity stimulation to cut the rate of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, alongside research into embryo markers that make single-embryo transfer realistic.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, serves on the editorial board of Fertility and Sterility, co-wrote the patient guide A Baby At Last! (Simon & Schuster, 2010), and has been on New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” list continuously since 1998. He sees patients at CRM’s Upper East Side office.

Clinical Expertise

  • IVF and ART Program Leadership: Full-cycle IVF, ICSI and frozen embryo transfer within the center he has directed since 1988
  • Egg Donation: Built the first donor egg program in the United States; matching, screening and donor-cycle management remain a signature service
  • Ovarian Stimulation: Helped develop contemporary stimulation protocols, including modified approaches designed to avoid OHSS
  • Embryo Selection and PGT: Research on morphologic and biologic markers of embryo viability to support single-embryo transfer, and on optimizing preimplantation genetic testing
  • Complex Infertility: Diminished ovarian reserve, PCOS, endometriosis and recurrent pregnancy loss — patients who arrive after other treatments have failed

Why Choose Dr. Rosenwaks

One program, one director since its founding. Longevity is rare in academic fertility medicine. The success data, laboratory standards and protocols used at CRM carry his fingerprints, and his stated specialty is the patient who has not conceived through previous fertility treatment.

He invented the pathway you may need. If donor eggs are part of your plan, this is the physician who created the first such program in the country.

He writes the rules he practices under. Past President of SART — the society that publishes US clinic-level outcome data — past President of the New York Obstetrical Society and of the International IVF Society, and a former Director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Recognized at the highest institutional level. The 2012 Maurice R. Greenberg Distinguished Service Award is the top honor given by Weill Cornell Medical College and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital; he also holds the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Professional Affiliations

Past President of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, the New York Obstetrical Society and the International IVF Society; former President of the Society of Reproductive Endocrinologists; former Director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology; member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Board-level service at Weill Cornell, including the Board of Overseers. Listed in Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors: New York Metro Area” and “America’s Top Doctors.”

Suitable For

  • Advanced maternal age or low ovarian reserve: Decades of stimulation-protocol experience plus the country’s first egg donation program as a fallback path
  • Repeat IVF failure: His stated clinical focus — patients who have not conceived through previous treatment — backed by in-house PGT and embryo-selection research
  • Donor egg families: Direct access to the program he founded in 1988
  • Endocrine-driven infertility: PCOS, endometriosis and recurrent pregnancy loss managed within a single academic center
  • International and complex-case patients: A program built to co-manage difficult cases across a full multidisciplinary team
