About the Clinic
Bay IVF is a boutique fertility clinic located in Palo Alto, California, founded in 2011 by Dr. Frank Polansky — a pioneer in reproductive medicine who co-founded the Stanford IVF Clinic in 1985 and established Nova IVF in 1987 as California’s first non-hospital IVF clinic.
The clinic combines Stanford’s academic legacy with the warmth of a small practice. Bay IVF’s on-site embryology laboratory supports high-standard embryo culture and cryopreservation, and the non-hospital setting helps reduce the stress of treatment. The clinic has guided thousands of Bay Area families through their fertility journeys and was named a 2026 SFGATE Best of the Bay Area Finalist.

Why Choose Bay IVF Fertility Treatment Clinic
Founded by a Stanford IVF pioneer: Dr. Polansky brings over 35 years of clinical experience in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI), from co-founding the Stanford IVF Clinic in 1985 to leading Bay IVF today.
Boutique, one-on-one care: As a small clinic, Bay IVF gives every patient direct access to the same dedicated team. Dr. Polansky personally performs ultrasounds, egg retrievals, embryo transfers, and ovarian and endometrial stimulations, ensuring continuity and consistency of care.
Above-national-average success rates: According to SART 2023 data, 60.9% of Bay IVF cycles for patients under 35 resulted in a live birth — well above the national average of 53.2%. The clinic prioritizes egg quality and individualized stimulation protocols over sheer egg quantity. One caveat on the numbers: our extract of the SART report holds only the under-35 band for this clinic, so the 35-37, 38-40 and over-40 rows shown in the rate table are not verified against the source we hold — confirm them with the clinic’s own SART report before you rely on them.
LGBTQ+ friendly: Bay IVF welcomes all family types, offering Reciprocal IVF, gender selection, and other inclusive family-building pathways.
Transparent pricing: Pay-for-service model with published fees (IVF from $11,870) and 0% APR financing through Future Family.
IVF & Fertility Services
Bay IVF offers a full spectrum of assisted reproductive services:

Patient Journey
- First call / form: Speak directly with a patient coordinator, who takes a brief reproductive history and schedules an initial consultation with Dr. Polansky (in-person or free video consult).
- Initial visit (about 1 hour): Reception and vitals; Dr. Polansky reviews your history and infertility factors; pelvic ultrasound to assess antral follicle count; financial discussion with an advisor.
- Treatment preparation: Ovarian reserve testing, uterine ultrasound (saline sonogram), semen analysis, and California/FDA-required blood tests; lifestyle and diet guidance; treatment typically begins within 1–6 weeks.
- Stimulation and retrieval: Gentle individualized protocols over 9–12 days with self-administered medication and brief monitoring visits; retrieval is an outpatient procedure under sedation (5–10 minutes).
- Embryo culture and transfer: Blastocyst culture to days 5–7, optional PGT; transfer of one or two embryos (your choice); pregnancy blood test about 10 days after transfer, heartbeat ultrasound at 6–7 weeks.
- OB/GYN handoff: Once the heartbeat is confirmed, full records are transferred to your obstetrician, with 24/7 phone/text support from the clinic.
Out-of-area patients can complete initial testing closer to home, travel only when needed, and return home after retrieval/transfer with remote monitoring.
Local Legal Framework
Bay IVF works under California’s regulatory framework for assisted reproduction. Our sources for this clinic describe how the practice applies state requirements in daily care but cite no statute numbers or code sections, so none are named here.
- Required screening: blood tests mandated by the State of California and the FDA are part of every pre-treatment work-up, alongside semen evaluation, ovarian reserve testing and a saline uterine ultrasound.
- Embryo transfer number: the clinic follows ASRM guidance on limiting the number of embryos transferred and leaves the one-or-two decision to the patient.
- Gender selection: California permits gender selection through IVF with PGT, and Bay IVF offers it — the clinic frames it as a considered ethical choice, not a casual preference.
- LGBTQ+ patients: California law protects LGBTQ+ individuals, single patients and same-sex couples alike; the clinic states it does not discriminate on the basis of marital status, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Surrogacy: gestational surrogacy can be coordinated legally in California. Bay IVF works with established agencies and pre-screened gestational carriers, and lays out the legal and medical steps alongside the intended parents.
