About Alabama Fertility
Alabama Fertility provides fertility care across Alabama. It runs three offices — Birmingham (the flagship, at 3490 Independence Drive), Huntsville (500 Whitesport Drive), and Montgomery (356 St. Luke’s Drive). This page covers the Montgomery clinic; the physician team, laboratory, and cycle reporting are shared network-wide, and the CDC registers the practice under the name Alabama Fertility Specialists.
The network is an international referral center for complex reproductive problems: endometriosis, uterine fibroids, congenital abnormalities of the reproductive tract, recurrent miscarriage, and male factor infertility. The practice lists the full ART lineup — IVF, ICSI, preimplantation genetic testing, donor eggs, donor insemination, and reproductive surgery, including microsurgical tubal reversal and robotic-assisted procedures. Care is delivered in a private-practice setting, operated according to the guidelines of ASRM, SART, and ACOG.
On outcomes, the clinic’s SART 2023 report shows a 55.5% cumulative live birth rate per intended retrieval for patients under 35, above the 53.2% national average that year (SART 2023 National Summary). The practice completed 1,087 ART cycles in 2023, against the 932-cycle national per-clinic average in the same SART 2023 dataset.
Accreditations & Awards

Why Choose Alabama Fertility
- Everything under one roof: the on-site laboratory runs reproductive hormone assays, immune function testing, and advanced semen analysis — you are not shipped to an outside lab for basic workup
- Full ART lineup in a state with few options: stimulation through retrieval, ICSI, 3-5 day embryo culture, PGT-A/PGT-M, and single-center transfer planning without referral out of state
- Two donor egg paths: an in-house Donor Oocyte Program that recruits and screens healthy donors aged 21-34, plus frozen donor eggs through Fairfax EggBank (the sibling bank of Fairfax Cryobank, operating 30+ years), with genetic testing done and expedited shipping
- Surgical depth most IVF-only clinics lack: hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, laparotomy, microsurgical tubal reversal, and robotic-assisted surgery, performed by the same reproductive surgeons who manage your cycle
- A dedicated nurse for every IVF patient: a booked one-on-one appointment to walk through your treatment calendar and teach self-injections before the cycle starts
- Physicians trained at Harvard, Mayo Clinic, Columbia, and Penn, who have built long-term practices in Alabama rather than rotating through academic centers
IVF & Fertility Services
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): ovarian stimulation with injectable or oral medications, blood work and transvaginal ultrasound monitoring, transvaginal egg retrieval, embryo culture to day 3 or day 5, and embryo transfer that requires no anesthesia
- ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): single-sperm injection for male factor infertility or prior fertilization failure
- PGT-A and PGT-M: genetic screening of embryos for chromosome number, and diagnostic testing for known single-gene conditions
- Fertility testing: ovulatory function assessment, hormone level testing, semen analysis, HSG, transvaginal ultrasound, and surgical evaluation for adhesions or endometriosis
- Ovulation induction: Clomid (clomiphene citrate), Femara (letrozole), or FSH injections with home or in-office monitoring
- IUI and donor IUI: processed semen placed through the cervix; donor sperm sourced from national sperm banks — a common path for same-sex couples and single patients
- Donor eggs: fresh (in-house matching program) or frozen (Fairfax EggBank catalog)
- Egg freezing and fertility preservation: for medical or planned-delay family building
- Reproductive surgery: hysteroscopic polyp, fibroid, and Asherman syndrome treatment; laparoscopic endometriosis and hydrosalpinx surgery; open surgery for extensive pathology; microsurgical tubal reversal
Fees & Packages
There is no published price list. Charges for office visits, labs, ultrasounds, and procedures go to your insurer first; if your plan does not cover fertility treatment, those charges are collected at the time of service. The clinic’s own insurance page is our source here, and it documents no named coverage mandate in Alabama — so verify your benefits before you start.
Medication coverage varies by plan and is often routed through mail-order specialty pharmacies with overnight shipping; a local option (Homewood Pharmacy in Birmingham) stocks most fertility drugs at higher cost. Two need-based programs can reduce drug costs: Serono Compassionate Care and Design Rx First Steps. Ask for the financial counselor after your first visit for cycle-specific numbers and financing options.
Patient Journey
- Consultation: schedule with one of the physicians to review your history and treatment options — no fixed trying period is required, and evaluation is advised sooner for patients over 35
- Pre-cycle workup, tailored to you: semen analysis for the male partner, blood tests for ovarian reserve, transvaginal ultrasound, uterine cavity evaluation, and a trial transfer before your actual transfer day
- Nurse appointment: a dedicated sit-down to go over your IVF treatment calendar and receive injection teaching before medications begin
- Stimulation and monitoring: injectable or oral medications, tracked with blood work and ultrasound
- Egg retrieval: transvaginal oocyte retrieval once follicles are mature
- Fertilization and culture: conventional insemination or ICSI in the lab, embryos cultured 3-5 days, with optional PGT
- Transfer and confirmation: embryo transfer without anesthesia, then pregnancy testing and follow-up
Local Legal Framework
In February 2024, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos count as minor children under the state’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. The decision briefly threw IVF care in the state into uncertainty, as clinics weighed liability for routine lab work. The legislature responded within weeks with IVF protection legislation (SB 159), granting civil and criminal immunity to providers, patients, and others handling unused embryos, and IVF cycles resumed and continue normally across Alabama, including at this practice.
What this means for you in practical terms: embryo disposition is taken seriously. Expect explicit, detailed consent documents covering creation, storage, and disposition of embryos, and read them carefully. Egg donation is legal and actively performed here (fresh and frozen programs), and PGT-A/PGT-M are available without state-level restriction beyond standard informed consent.
