About Genea Thailand
Genea Thailand is the Bangkok clinic of Genea, the Australian fertility group whose history began in 1986 when Professor Robert Jansen founded Sydney IVF — one of the world’s longest-running assisted reproduction programs, which achieved its first pregnancy within a month of opening. Nearly four decades of reproductive medicine research and clinical practice underpin the protocols Genea Thailand runs today.
The clinic occupies the 10th floor of Central Tower at Central World in Pathumwan, in the heart of Bangkok and directly accessible by BTS. It imports Genea Australia’s clinical protocols, quality controls, and staff training pathway — the Thai specialist team completes extensive onboarding with the Australian team so both countries follow the same standards.
On outcomes: Genea Thailand states that its pregnancy success rates run 25-27% above the Australian national average, based on Genea Group internal statistics; Australian patient outcome data is collected by a national government body and independently audited, while Thailand has no equivalent public registry, and the clinic does not publish age-specific rates. The clinic’s embryology lab uses the Geri time-lapse incubator system — the same technology Genea was the first in Australia to deploy — which a peer-reviewed study reported improved live birth rates by 12.2% and high-quality embryo numbers by 46% versus traditional systems (Peura et al., 2020, Fertility and Sterility 114(3) Suppl., presented at ASRM 2020).
In July 2023, the Genea Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China’s BGI Health, strengthening its genetic testing capabilities for Asian patients.
Accreditations & Awards
- ISO certification — the clinic states ISO-certified laboratory and quality management standards; the specific standard number is not published on the website
- Genea Group lineage (Australia, est. 1986) — shared clinical protocols and audited quality systems with Sydney-based Genea Fertility
- Peer-reviewed technology evidence — Geri incubator time-lapse culture outcomes published in Fertility and Sterility (2020)
- No JCI record for Genea Thailand was found in searches of the Joint Commission International directory; the clinic’s assurance model rests on the Australian Group’s quality system rather than US-style hospital accreditation
- Google rating 5.0/5 from 37 reviews (as of 2026-07)
Why Choose Genea Thailand
- Australian protocols, Bangkok location: identical clinical pathways, embryology standards, and quality assurance as Genea Australia, delivered in central Bangkok
- Pioneering genetic testing: Genea performed the first chromosome screening of embryos in 1996 and introduced single-gene disorder testing in 1998 — PGT-A, PGT-M, and PGT-SR are supported by on-site integrated IVF and genetics laboratories
- Advanced embryology: Geri time-lapse incubators with individual culture pods give every embryo uninterrupted, continuously monitored development
- Almost 40 years of history: an IVF program operating since 1986, with specialists trained through Genea’s cross-country onboarding
- Full international patient apparatus: translation and coordination in multiple languages (including Chinese, English, Korean, and Burmese site versions), plus help with travel, accommodation, and local transport
- Two treatment layouts for overseas patients: complete the full cycle in Thailand, or stimulate at home and travel only for egg retrieval, then return for frozen embryo transfer
IVF & Fertility Services
- IVF and ICSI: third-generation ART; ICSI injects a single healthy sperm into the egg and is recommended for low count, poor motility, abnormal morphology, prior IVF fertilization failure, or post-vasectomy cases
- IUI: ovulation monitored by blood tests and ultrasound, washed high-quality sperm placed directly into the uterus — generally pain-free, no anesthesia
- Egg freezing: stimulation of about 10 days, retrieval, and vitrification; recommended before age 35, with around 15 eggs as a typical target
- Sperm freezing: cryopreservation before medical treatments (chemo/radiation), vasectomy, or for overseas treatment and donation
- PGT-A / PGT-M / PGT-SR: chromosome-number screening, single-gene disorder testing (cystic fibrosis, thalassemia, Huntington’s, SMA, fragile X), and structural rearrangement testing for translocation carriers
- Carrier screening: blood or saliva test identifying parental gene mutations (up to 25% inheritance risk when both partners carry the same mutation), results in 2-4 weeks
- NAD+ therapy: mitochondrial function optimization offered as an add-on program
- Sperm retrieval: PESA/TESE procedures for male factor cases

Patient Journey
Option 1 — complete the cycle in Thailand:
- Initial consultation: discuss family goals and complete a full fertility assessment (in person or by video)
- Ovarian stimulation: hormone medication with regular monitoring
- Egg retrieval (OPU): minor surgical procedure to collect eggs
- Fertilization and embryo development: IVF or ICSI with time-lapse culture
- Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS/PGT): chromosome and genetic disease screening where indicated
- Embryo transfer: transfer of the healthiest, screened embryo, followed by pregnancy testing
Option 2 — split treatment between home country and Thailand:
- Ovarian stimulation at home under local supervision
- Travel to Thailand for egg retrieval, then return home
- Return to Bangkok for PGS results review and frozen embryo transfer (FET)
The international patient team coordinates translation, travel, accommodation, and transport throughout.
Local Legal Framework
Thailand regulates assisted reproduction through the Protection of Children Born from Assisted Reproductive Technologies Act B.E. 2558 (2015). IVF, ICSI, and PGT are legal when performed at licensed facilities such as Genea Thailand. Commercial and cross-border surrogacy are prohibited, and surrogacy is restricted to married heterosexual Thai couples meeting statutory conditions — Genea Thailand does not offer surrogacy. Embryo sex selection is illegal except for medical indications, such as avoiding sex-linked genetic disorders. Egg donation is permitted only through regulated channels with unpaid, unrelated donors. International patients should confirm current requirements before travel.
