About

About Pacific Northwest Fertility

Pacific Northwest Fertility (PNWF) is a reproductive endocrinology and infertility practice in the greater Seattle area, founded in 2005. The clinic’s own About page describes the goal at founding as building “the premier fertility clinic in the Northwest.” It is part of the Ivy Fertility network, and registers its cycle data with SART and the CDC under the name Pacific Northwest Fertility and IVF Specialists (ClinicPKID 2352).

Care runs across two campuses. The Seattle clinic sits on the 10th floor of the 1101 Madison Tower on First Hill and handles monitoring and testing. The Bellevue clinic, which opened in 2024 in the Overlake Medical Pavilion, holds the IVF laboratory and the procedure suite — and every weekend appointment, including surgery, happens there. Bellevue is roughly 30 minutes from SeaTac airport, off I-405 and SR 520.

All of the clinic’s physicians are board-certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the practice organizes its work around four Centers of Excellence: Collaborative Reproduction, LGBTQ+ Fertility, Fertility Preservation, and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss. Services cover IVF, a reduced-injection Gentle IVF protocol, IUI, ICSI, embryo genetic testing, male infertility, egg freezing, donor eggs, egg donation, gestational carrier programs, and international patient care. The clinic has frozen eggs since 2009 and says it opened the Pacific Northwest’s first donor egg bank that same year.

On outcomes: PNWF’s SART 2023 Final report shows a 62.1% cumulative live birth rate per intended retrieval for patients under 35, against a 53.2% national average in the same dataset. The practice reported 2,816 cycles in 2023, roughly three times the 932-cycle national per-clinic average.

Accreditations & Awards

  • Newsweek & Statista, America’s Best Fertility Clinics 2026 — named to the 140-clinic national list and ranked #1 in Washington, #21 in the United States (Ivy Fertility announcement and the Newsweek rankings page)
  • Newsweek, America’s Best Fertility Clinics 2023-2026 — the clinic’s own awards listing spans these four years
  • REI Protect Seal of Approval — announced March 21, 2025; a lab-and-process safety standard for REI practices that requires annual re-review
  • Seattle Metropolitan “Top Doctors” — the clinic states its physicians have been named for 15 consecutive years, 2010 to present
  • Seattle Magazine “Top Doctors” — listed on the practice’s patient success page
  • SART member clinic — reports cycle and live-birth outcomes to SART CORS every year, so results are independently checkable

Why Choose Pacific Northwest Fertility

  • Freeze-all and single embryo transfer are the default, not the exception. The SART 2023 report shows vitrification rates of 92.4% to 96.8% across age groups, and CDC 2022 data put frozen embryos at 96.6% to 99.1% of transfers with 97% to 99% single-embryo transfers. The clinic’s IVF page says physicians “often recommend all viable embryos be cryopreserved” for a later frozen transfer. If you are weighing multiple-fetus risk, this is a practice that has already decided where it stands.
  • Fertility preservation is a core business line. CDC 2022 data show egg or embryo banking accounted for 55.7% of the ART reasons recorded at this clinic, with 11.4% to 24.3% of cycles explicitly for preservation — unusually high for a general IVF practice. That volume sits behind the Center for Fertility Preservation and Simplify, the clinic’s frozen egg bank.
  • The Northwest’s first dedicated LGBTQ+ fertility center. Opened in 2021 by physicians in the practice, covering same-sex couples, transgender and non-binary patients, and single parents by choice, including reciprocal IVF and preservation before gender-affirming treatment. The Ivy network states it has built more families for same-sex couples than any other fertility group.
  • The lab is in-house. The clinic’s stated position is that “a clinic is only as good as its lab,” and it runs embryology and andrology on site with electronic witnessing, sensor monitoring of the IVF lab, and security monitoring on cryo storage. You are not waiting on a courier to an outside lab.
  • Two donor-egg paths. A fresh donor program with in-house recruiting, plus frozen eggs through the egg bank the practice started in 2009. Donors are compensated up to $10,000 per cycle, a figure the clinic publishes.
  • Prices are on the website. An itemized service table, the average medication add-on, the insurers it works with, and named financing partners are all public — which is not the norm for US fertility clinics.

IVF & Fertility Services

  • In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): stimulation, ultrasound and blood monitoring, anesthesia-guided retrieval, fertilization, and embryo culture for up to 7 days
  • Gentle IVF: an oral medication replaces the daily injections used to prevent premature ovulation; the clinic cites clinical studies showing effectiveness comparable to conventional protocols
  • IUI (Intrauterine Insemination): stimulated and donor-sperm cycles; the procedure takes about 15 minutes and needs no sedation
  • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): single-sperm injection at retrieval, used for low count or motility and combined with sperm retrieval techniques when needed
  • Genetic testing of embryos: PGT-A screening and carrier screening, run before transfer
  • Male infertility: semen analysis as the first step, with evaluation and treatment of sperm quality and quantity issues
  • Egg freezing and fertility preservation: elective egg freezing and preservation before medical treatment, through the Center for Fertility Preservation
  • Donor egg IVF: fresh or frozen donor eggs, with the clinic stating that donor-egg cycles are performed as single embryo transfers
  • Egg donation: donor recruitment with published compensation
  • Gestational carrier (surrogacy): works with licensed agencies and with known or altruistic carriers
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss: the clinic’s Center for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss evaluates patients after two or more miscarriages
  • International patient care: care can start with a virtual consultation, with testing and monitoring coordinated through providers near the patient’s home
  • Financial counseling: insurance verification, financing partners, and grant guidance

Success Rates

The figures below come from the SART CORS 2023 Final Clinic Summary Report, metric live births per intended egg retrieval, all embryo transfers, patients using their own eggs — the cumulative rate across every transfer resulting from one retrieval.

Age groupPNWFUS averagePNWF cycles
Under 3562.1%53.2%272
35-3752.4%39.9%231
38-4045.3%26.2%225
Over 4013.5%9.4%178

The over-40 figure is weighted across the two SART bands: 41-42 at 17.6% over 119 cycles and over 42 at 5.1% over 59 cycles. National averages are the SART 2023 National Summary for the same metric.

Other numbers from the same report:

  • Live births per new patient, after all retrievals: 74.1% under 35, 68.1% at 35-37, 60.3% at 38-40, 26.7% over 40 (220 / 163 / 141 / 86 patients)
  • Cycle volume: 2,816 total cycles in 2023, including 274 embryo-banking and 428 egg-banking cycles
  • Donated embryos: 190 frozen donated-embryo transfers at a 39.5% live birth rate. Fresh donor egg cycles (4) and donated embryo cycles (12) fall under SART’s 20-cycle reporting floor and are published as fractions only, not percentages

One caution when you compare sources. The clinic’s own patient success page labels its chart “Live Births Per Intended Egg Retrieval, All Embryo Transfers” but plots 61.4% under 35 and 43.6% at 38-40 — those are the singleton birth rows of the same SART table, and its 35-37 value of 42.4% matches no figure in that section of the report. The chart also stops at 41-42 and omits over-42. This page uses the live birth rows from the SART report directly.

Fees & Packages

PNWF publishes an itemized price list. Medications are not included, and the clinic notes that prices are subject to change:

ServicePublished price
Testing$300 - $3,000
IUI$530 - $2,000
IVF$14,500 - $21,700
Egg freezingfrom $11,000 first cycle, from $9,000 subsequent
Carrier screening$250 - $500
PGT-A$3,625 - $5,000
Frozen embryo transfer$4,895 - $6,092
Gestational carrier services$11,000 - $12,000 plus agency fees

Medication runs about $5,000 on average for an IVF cycle and about $2,000 for a transfer cycle. Egg donors receive up to $10,000 per cycle.

On insurance, the clinic lists Aetna, Cigna, Progyny, First Choice, Kaiser, Premera, Maven, Regence Blue Cross/Blue Shield (including out-of-state plans), and United Healthcare/Optum — for which Pacific Northwest Fertility is the plan’s designated Center of Excellence. Washington has no state mandate requiring private insurers to cover IVF, so read your own benefits before you start; the clinic recommends calling your insurer before the first visit.

Financing partners named on the site: PatientFi (funding up to $60,000, no down payment), CapexMD (loans from $3,000 to $50,000 over 6 to 60 months, can include medication and genetic testing), Sunfish, Future Family, and Gaia (fixed price, unlimited transfers, discounted medication). There is also an IVF Success Program with flat-fee pricing, unlimited transfers, 0% APR for the first six months, and refund guarantees for qualified patients. Grant organizations the clinic points to include Men Having Babies GPAP, ARC Fertility, Aneden Gives, BabyQuest, the Cade Foundation, and Roaring Adventures.

Patient Journey

  1. Virtual consultation: new patients start online, from anywhere, with a physician or advanced practice provider — family-building goals, medical history, and what testing is needed
  2. Testing: bloodwork, ultrasound, uterine imaging, and semen analysis, done in person at Bellevue and/or Seattle
  3. Diagnosis and plan: a follow-up to review results, then the treatment plan is chosen together with your doctor
  4. Financial consultation: the financing team reviews your coverage, or your options if you have none
  5. Treatment: the team builds the calendar and coordinates the cycle end to end

Within an IVF cycle: 9 to 14 days of injectable hormones with close monitoring, a retrieval under anesthesia lasting about 20 minutes (one to two days of recovery), sperm washing and conventional insemination or ICSI, embryo culture for 5 to 7 days, a transfer that needs no anesthesia, and a pregnancy test 10 to 12 days later.

International patients follow the same opening step and stay closer to home for as long as possible: PNWF coordinates testing and monitoring with local clinics and health centers, then schedules the retrieval and transfer visits in Seattle. The clinic also has standing experience with patients from Alaska and British Columbia, working with hometown providers to cut travel.

On timing, the clinic’s own guidance: seek fertility testing after 12 months of regular unprotected trying, or after 6 months if you are over 35.

Washington parentage and assisted reproduction run through the Uniform Parentage Act, Chapter 26.26A RCW, which contains the state’s provisions on gestational carrier agreements and who is legally a parent. That is the statutory basis for surrogacy in Washington.

  • Gestational carrier: the clinic requires a full screening process and signed legal contracts before it schedules a cycle, whether you found your carrier through a licensed agency or independently
  • Egg donation: compensation to donors is permitted in Washington, and the clinic publishes an upper figure of $10,000 per cycle
  • PGT-A and PGT-M: legal in the United States, governed by FDA regulation and ASRM guidance rather than state law
  • LGBTQ+ family building: same-sex marriage is legal in Washington and same-sex couples have access to ART; the clinic has run a dedicated LGBTQ+ fertility center since 2021

Worth separating: the clinic’s single-embryo-transfer practice for donor egg cycles is a clinical policy, not a Washington legal limit. The reason the clinic gives is lowering the risk of gestational diabetes and pregnancy-related hypertension that comes with twins or more. Details that do turn on legal advice — carrier age and prior pregnancy history, independent counsel for the carrier, when a parentage order should issue — are best confirmed with a Washington reproductive attorney and with the clinic directly.

We’re Joe & Henry, a couple who started working with PNWF in 2024. Throughout our surrogacy journey, the team at PNWF has provided us with professional care, prompt responses, and, most importantly, so much emotional support. With their help and guidance, we were able to navigate this journey smoothly and confidently. We were fortunate enough to have success with our first cycle, which saved us a great deal of time, money, and emotional stress. On August 31, 2026, we were blessed to finally have our baby boy in our arms. It was an incredibly special and emotional moment for both of us. We want to sincerely thank everyone at PNWF, especially Dr. Massie, for helping make this dream a reality. Without your expertise, dedication, and support, we would never have made it to this moment. Thank you, PNWF, for being part of our journey and helping us build our family. We will always be grateful.

Traveling from Idaho we were seeking a comprehensive and advanced fertility clinic outside of our state. We are one retrieval and two transfers in at this point and single step of the way, the communication has been smooth, clear and transparent. Dr. Shahine is an incredible doctor that takes genuine care of her patients. I cannot recommend PNWF and their entire staff enough. Their level of compassion has been felt every step of the way. With a fertility journey being quite an investment, this clinic sets the bar high. Thank you, thank you for your support and care up until this point!

This place is run like a business, not like a clinic that actually cares about people. There are countless reasons why I never felt like I was cared for like a human being here. A few of the reasons- terrible bedside manner from the doctor, extremely delayed follow-up (about 1 month) after scary test results, poor communication with front desk staff/clinical staff. I strongly advise you to go elsewhere to get care.

I realize that by default this is not a cheap service, however more should be done to make having a child affordable. This shouldn’t be an elitist service. If you want your own child, you have to be rich or go into extreme financial debt.

FRONT DESK NEVER PICKS UP THE PHONE . I feel like the first rule of thumb for a good business is to have adequate staffing so that the patients are taken care of
