IVF in Dallas: Costs, Visas, Nonstop Flights, Housing, Climate and the Full Timeline (2026)

Is Dallas the Right IVF Destination for You?

Dallas is the only city in this series where the two biggest black boxes are open before you book: the price and the flight. One clinic publishes a full self-pay list, and American Airlines was still flying Shanghai–DFW nonstop on 2026-10-29, the day we checked. What you pay for that is the ground.

What Dallas is genuinely good at

  • A verified nonstop from mainland China. PVG–DFW (AA127, 787-9) appears in live operation data for 2026-10-29, with the return banking out of Pudong the same day; Hong Kong–DFW and Tokyo Narita–DFW are also nonstop. One connection less, 4–8 fewer transit hours than Houston or Atlanta.
  • A published price list. Conceive Fertility Center itemises IVF under $15,000, egg freezing $6,700, intake $300 (fees page, captured 2026-08-27).
  • Low living cost. One-bedroom median $1,301/month (Zumper Dallas, marked 2026-10-28) — far below New York or San Francisco.
  • Labs on site at several campuses. Dallas IVF states labs at all four locations (Dallas, Frisco, McKinney, Tyler).

Where Dallas falls short

  • You drive or ride-hail every day. DART’s Orange Line reaches DFW Airport, but the airport’s own page says trains beyond LBJ/Central run only during weekday peak periods. Fares and first/last service unverified (dart.org returns 403 from our machine).
  • Only one clinic quotes. Dallas IVF, DFW Fertility Associates, Fertility Specialists of Texas and CCRM DFW publish no cycle price; ask for an itemised quote.
  • No Chinese consular post in Texas — the former Houston district moved to the embassy in Washington under its notice of 2024-06-29.
  • Weather cuts both ways: thin ice in January–February, severe convection in April–May.

Why there is no success-rate table here

Per-clinic numbers mean nothing unless the denominator is stated: per retrieval, per transfer and per frozen-thaw transfer are three different figures, and mixing them manufactures the comparisons that sell cycles. One local clinic website claims results “up to 35% above the national average” with no cohort, year or denominator attached, so we do not repeat figures we cannot trace. Read How to Read IVF Success-Rate Data and Success Rates by Age, then use IVF Clinics in Dallas, where profiled figures carry their source and vintage.

How Much Does IVF in Dallas Actually Cost?

The one price list you can copy

All figures are Conceive Fertility Center’s published self-pay prices (fees page, captured 2026-08-27). One clinic’s sticker, not a Dallas market average.

ItemConceive self-payIncludes / excludes
New-patient intake$300—

Tubal reversal$8,310Surgeon, surgery centre, anaesthesia, follow-up
Medication, always separateIVF $3,000–$6,000; mini ~$2,500; FET under $500Excluded from treatment prices

Reading the table beats copying the number. Because “under $15,000” excludes the transfer cycle, one retrieval plus one frozen transfer adds a FET and another round of medication on the clinic’s own terms. The comparable all-in Texas figure is $12,000–$25,000 per cycle, typically $13,000–$24,000 with medication (How Much Is IVF in Texas; components in IVF Cost in the USA).

What the other four publish

ClinicPublished pricing or policyMissing
Dallas IVFIUI ~$2,000 (monitoring and procedure, no meds); PatientFi (up to $60,000), CapexMD, Future Family; in-network with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Progyny, UMR, UHCNo IVF price; no multi-cycle package

A quoted “IVF price” routinely excludes medication, anaesthesia, lab add-ons and embryology. In Texas the gap between a quoted cycle and a completed one is $5,000–$10,000.

Three worked budgets (USD, international airfare excluded)

ScenarioMedicalGroundTotal
Own-egg IVF, one retrieval + one FET; monthly rental, self-catering, one patient, two trips$16,000$2,100 (rent pro-rated 21 nights $911 + food $700 + visa $435 + eSIM $10 + insurance $200; local transport separate)≈ $18,100
With PGT-A, ~3 weeks, partner accompanying$25,000$3,600≈ $28,600
Two retrievals + PGT-A, two people$35,000–$45,000$4,500≈ $39,500–$49,500

No currency conversion on purpose: any rate printed in a guide is stale by the day you pay. Convert at your bank’s day rate and add an FX buffer. Save on a 30-night-plus rental, cooking in, October–November or March–April travel, and asking about self-pay discounts if you plan more than one cycle. Never economise on refundable airfare, door-to-door transport to your monitoring site, a contingency fund for OHSS admission, a retrieval-day escort, legal work if a carrier is involved, or the written itemised quote.

What Visa Do You Need, and Where Does the Time Go?

Four changes many applicants have not caught up with: the interview-waiver window was cut from 48 months to 12; administrative processing still adds 2–8 weeks for biomedical backgrounds — do not ticket until it clears; EVUS is void when a passport is renewed, and children need their own enrolment; and you should select Medical Treatment as the purpose and carry the clinic letter naming the specific campus address. Live interview waits belong on the State Department wait-time page, not in any blog.

The Dallas-specific consular fact

There is no Chinese consulate in Dallas, and none in Houston. The embassy’s district-adjustment notice (page dated 2024-06-29, effective on publication) transfers the former Houston district — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Puerto Rico — to the Embassy in Washington (notice). So a baby’s PRC travel document, or your passport renewal mid-treatment, is a Washington case. The embassy’s guidance (November 2024 wording; checklist page dated 2026-10-08) is online application plus in-person fingerprint capture (passports and travel documents) — do not plan around postal submission. Whether mailing is possible at all, and whether an infant must appear, we could not verify; it changes your second trip’s length, so ask before you fly.

Discrepancy on our own site: our Houston guide dates that notice 2024-07-02. The page itself reads 2024-06-29. This article follows the primary source; the difference is logged as a correction item.

Method: aa.com and the fare aggregators returned 403 or timed out here, so the table rests on live flight-operation data, not a carrier’s sales page. It proves a nonstop flew that day — not that the route is daily, seasonal, or bookable at a price. Block times and fares are unverified. One clinic’s international page claims DFW has “more than 65 nonstop international destinations” (page); we could not confirm that against airport sources, so it is not a planning input.

Four arrival facts about DFW

  1. International arrivals and US immigration are in Terminal D; the Global Entry office and CBP cashier sit by the lower-level international arrivals area (DFW customs, updated 2025-12-12). Post-baggage inter-terminal transfers are not described: unverified.
  2. The light-rail station is at Terminal A, reached by going down to the A6 level; from other terminals take the Terminal Link people mover (DFW transit, 2026-08-11). Official pages never say “Skytrain” and give no walking times.
  3. Ride-hail is upper-level curbside at each terminal (Uber, Lyft, WINGZ, Alto, AUX); taxis are lower level at A/B/C/D/E, desks staffed 08:00–24:00 (DFW ground transport, 2025-12-22).
  4. Taxi metering and airport surcharges: unverified. The quoted “$57 to downtown” comes from a private car-service page, not an airport tariff.

Beijing and Shanghai run 13–14 hours ahead. Schedule no monitoring on arrival day. In mid-late stimulation, prolonged sitting worsens bloating and leg venous return: compression socks, standing every two hours, water without caffeine. Flying long-haul within 48 hours of retrieval is not advisable; if unavoidable, let the clinic assess ovarian-torsion and OHSS risk first (complications and OHSS prevention).

Where Should You Stay, and Does the Rental Rule Matter?

Fix the campus, then the address. Clinic sites cluster in Downtown/Uptown (Barnett Tower, 3600 Gaston Ave), Walnut Hill in the northwest (FST, 8160 Walnut Hill Lane), and the northern corridor through Plano, Frisco and McKinney. Rent where the morning commute is short.

  • Monthly benchmark: one-bedroom median $1,301/month (Zumper Dallas, 2026-10-28). Listing median, not transacted price — a negotiation floor, not a promise.
  • Hotel ADR and occupancy for Dallas: unverified. No official or industry figure with a reporting period was obtainable, so no nightly rate is given. Price it live and add roughly 15% lodging tax.
  • The 30-night line is real money. Texas Tax Code Chapter 156 charges state lodging tax of 6% on rooms at $15 or more per day and Dallas adds 9%; a written occupancy-tax agreement of 30 consecutive nights or more with the same provider exits that tax (Texas Comptroller HOT). Suburban rates in Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Irving, and the dedicated-purpose components: unverified.
  • Short-term rentals: Dallas is the opposite of Houston. Dallas and Fort Worth adopted STR ordinances, but enforcement has been blocked by injunction since December 2023, so unlike Houston’s 2026 registration regime there is no registration certificate to look up. Verify instead the lease term, the host’s authority to let, and the cancellation policy, and read the contract’s end date before committing to a cycle. We could not reach dallascityhall.com for the ordinance text.
  • No rent control to rely on. Texas Local Government Code §214.902 bars cities from restricting a landlord’s choice of tenant, rent or lease terms except in narrowly defined, governor-approved emergencies (state Law Library guide, checked 2026-10-21).
  • Six questions before signing: door-to-door minutes to my monitoring campus at weekday rush hour; free parking; self-controlled air conditioning; a dryer; cancellation policy; 30-night contract availability.

Do You Really Need a Car?

Yes, unless your clinic sits on the Plano corridor and you can hit peak windows. Trains beyond LBJ/Central run only at weekday peak — the wrong direction when you land in the afternoon, the wrong window for a 06:30 appointment. Check fares and first/last service at dart.org or on station notices; we could not (403).

If your treatment is on the Fort Worth side, rail becomes legible. Trinity Metro’s TEXRail covers 27 miles from Fort Worth’s T&P station to DFW Terminal B in a published 53 minutes (FWTA, page modified 2024-09-13). Fares from 2026-03-01: $2 local, $1 reduced, $4 day pass, $18 seven-day, $9 regional day, under-4s free — via GoPass, activated before boarding (Trinity Metro tickets). A free TRE Link shuttle links CentrePort to Terminal B (lower level, door 47), Mon–Sat 05:30–23:00 every 20 or 40 minutes. Otherwise: two ride-hail trips a day, with retrieval day planned as an adult-escorted journey.

Same page: an average of 20.2 days a year at or above 100°F (37.8°C), concentrated in July (7.4) and August (9.7), and 46.5 thunderstorm days, peaking in May (7.7) and April (5.8). No official 90°F-day count was found, so none is given.

Dallas weather risk is bimodal, and heat is not the operational one.

  • January–February black ice. NWS Fort Worth recorded near-invisible ice up to about 0.5 inch on 11–12 February 2021 with a fatal multi-vehicle pile-up on I-35W; 5.00 inches of snow at DFW on 14–17 February; 139 consecutive hours at or below 32°F, bottoming at −2°F on 16 February (NWS event page; NCEI on the 2021 Texas freeze). De-icing is provisioned for rare events, so a thin glaze stops the city.
  • April–May convection. NWS Fort Worth’s tornado climatology (through 2026-05-15) records 11 tornadoes across north/central Texas in 2026, all in April (page); May is the wettest month above. Spring is the delay-prone season.
  • Dallas ice events in 2024–2026: unverified. The NWS snow/ice list ends at 2025-01-09/10 (6+ inches along the Red River, 9–11 in Cooke and Grayson counties, mainly north of I-20; no DFW total), with no revision date.

Best window: October–November — mild, drier, fewer disruptions. March–April works with refundable tickets and a spare day. December–February is temperate but carries ice risk: budget three extra days and one rebooking. May–June is hot and wet; July–September is heat-dominated, so confirm self-controlled air conditioning and a medication cold-chain before booking.

What You Cannot Bring Into the United States

There is no “Dallas version” of this. Inspection is federal — USDA APHIS for plant and animal products, CBP for declaration and enforcement, FDA for drugs — identical at every port.

  • Animal-origin products are prohibited. Public guidance from PRC missions lists restricted items including bird’s nest, donkey-hide gelatin (ejiao), deer antler, musk, tiger bone, pangolin scale, scorpions, centipedes, snake bile and tortoise shell. Fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, untreated plant or animal products and soil are barred.
  • Medication: keep prescriptions in original packaging with an English prescription or medical note, generally within a 90-day supply. Codeine- and tramadol-containing analgesics are controlled substances. Cannabis is a federal controlled substance regardless of Texas state rules — leave it home.
  • Cash over $10,000 must be declared; false declaration can mean fines, seizure and refusal of entry.

Transparency: CBP and APHIS traveller pages failed to load during this pass, so the above combines established public rules with search-result summaries. Check the current wording at CBP travel, USDA APHIS international travellers and FDA before you pack. Verifying each box against a live page beats memorising a list.

Eating through a cycle

Aim for 1.0–1.2 g protein per kg daily from stable sources; if the doctor flags OHSS risk after retrieval, expect instructions to raise protein and electrolytes. Avoid raw fish, soft-boiled eggs and unpasteurised dairy — the US food risk is raw food, not hygiene. Keep caffeine near or below 200 mg/day and alcohol off around transfer. Asian groceries concentrate along the western and south-western corridors, but individual store addresses and trading status could not be verified from primary sources: buy staples at a chain near your rental and confirm specialty shops on a live map after arrival.

Phones, Payments and Insurance

  • Buy a US-covering eSIM before you fly (10–20 GB / 30 days, about $10–$40); confirm your handset is eSIM-capable and unlocked.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi calling. This is not optional. During monitoring the clinic calls daily with bloodwork and changed injection times; a missed call in a signal shadow reorders a cycle.
  • Keep one local number for medication deliveries and ride-hail; prepaid monthly plans (T-Mobile, Visible) need no US credit history. Install the clinic’s patient portal app pre-departure and test the password.
  • Payments: a no-foreign-fee Visa/Mastercard plus $100–$200 cash for markets and small shops. Monthly rentals usually want online payment or a US cheque — foreigners typically cannot write one, so settle card or wire surcharges into the price first.
  • Insurance: travel medical policies commonly exclude ART complications — OHSS admission, post-retrieval bleeding or infection, ectopic pregnancy, multiples — which is precisely your exposure. Before flying, get the clinic’s self-pay OHSS admission range and which emergency department receives its patients, then read the exclusions line by line and keep a contingency reserve.

Law: what Texas actually guarantees

  • Insurance is a mandate to offer, not to cover. KFF’s state indicator (as of November 2025) classifies Texas as “Mandate to offer IVF, cover cancer-related iatrogenic infertility, excluding self-insured and religious employers.” Insurers must sell the option; employers need not buy it; self-funded ERISA plans and religious employers are exempt; Medicaid is listed Not Covered. It barely touches a self-pay patient, but it explains why Dallas sits below New York: no coverage floor, cash competition. Statute section numbers could not be verified (statutes.capitol.texas.gov serves a script shell here; mirrors returned 403/410), so none is quoted — see IVF Insurance Guide and Is IVF Covered by Insurance.
  • Gestational surrogacy is statutory: Family Code §§160.751–160.763 (the copied “160.201–160.202” is wrong). Four gates from the text: intended parents must be married (§160.754(b)); the carrier’s own egg may not be used (§160.754(c)); the agreement needs court validation, which requires 90 days’ Texas residency by carrier or intended parents before suit (§160.755(b)(1)), medical proof of inability to carry, a home study unless waived, informed voluntary consent, and a carrier with a prior pregnancy and delivery (§160.756(b)); then a birth notice within 300 days of the ART procedure, after which the court orders parentage and directs vital statistics to issue a birth certificate naming the intended parents (§160.760). An unvalidated agreement is unenforceable, yet intended parents may still owe child support (§160.762). The popular “sign 14 days before transfer” rule has no counterpart in the text and is not treated here as law; whether a carrier may be compensated is unverified — so no Texas surrogacy cost figure should be quoted until that is settled. Process: US Surrogacy Process Guide.
  • Reporting is not an outcomes registry. No Texas IVF-outcome registry was found. What exists is §160.763: facilities performing ART under a surrogacy agreement report annually to HHSC the number of such procedures and the count and status of unused embryos (amended by S.B. 219 of 2015, effective 2015-04-02). Cycle data flows federally under the 1992 Fertility Clinic Success Rate and Certification Act via CDC NASS (CDC ART success rates), clinic-level lookup at SART.
  • Embryos, PGT, transfer limits. No Texas statute restricting PGT was found (absence of a restriction is not confirmed permission); non-medical sex selection is not offered by mainstream US clinics per ASRM ethics guidance (choosing gender, PGT guide). No statutory embryo-transfer cap was found; practice follows ASRM guidance. Selective reduction’s legal status is unverified — ask separately, in writing.
  • Single patients, LGBTQ+ families, citizenship. Texas’s constraint on third-party reproduction comes from the married-couples structure above, not an admission ban; clinic practice varies, so confirm in writing before booking. Birth on US soil confers citizenship under the 14th Amendment regardless of parental status — and the PRC travel document for that baby is a Washington case (see the visa section).

A monitoring day, and the mistake that ends a cycle

Antagonist protocols mid-late: up at ~05:45, bloods and scan 06:30–07:00 (45–75 minutes in unit), back for the daily injection, light activity and shopping after lunch. Retrieval day: fasting arrival, anaesthesia, 1–2 hours of observation, and an adult must drive you back. Then the Dallas-specific hazard: within one organisation, monitoring, retrieval, the lab and the transfer may sit at different addresses — Conceive’s own disclosure is the clearest case, with its IVF laboratory and retrieval surgery handled by partners (Allen Reproductive Center; Baylor Surgical Center Las Colinas, THR Surgery Center Bedford, THR McKinney). Arriving at the wrong door on retrieval morning ends the cycle. Require the plan to state, day by day, address and time — and print it. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does IVF cost in Dallas?

One clinic publishes under $15,000 for a cycle, excluding medication, the transfer cycle, freezing and storage, and PGT. The realistic Texas all-in figure is $12,000–$25,000, commonly $13,000–$24,000 with medication. Use the sticker as the opening line of an itemised written quote, not as your budget.

Is there a nonstop flight from China to Dallas?

Yes as of our 2026-10-29 check: American Airlines was operating Shanghai Pudong–DFW nonstop that day, with Hong Kong and Tokyo Narita also nonstop. Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Singapore showed one-connection routings only. Schedules shift seasonally, so confirm with the carrier before booking.

Can I use public transport to monitoring appointments?

Practically no. The Orange Line reaches DFW Airport, but trains beyond LBJ/Central run only during weekday peak hours — wrong direction on arrival day, wrong window for a 06:30 appointment. On the Fort Worth side, TEXRail links Fort Worth central with DFW Terminal B in 53 minutes at $2 local. Otherwise budget two ride-hail trips a day.

Do the clinics offer Chinese-language interpretation?

None of the four profiled Dallas clinics states an interpreter service on its website. Ask in writing at the remote consultation how far ahead interpretation must be booked and whether it is on-site or telephonic. Do not assume a Mandarin-speaking nurse is assigned to your campus.

Is Texas a good place for surrogacy?

Texas has the unusual feature of a written gestational-surrogacy statute (Family Code §§160.751–160.763) with court validation and a birth-certificate mechanism. It also imposes four gates: intended parents must be married, the carrier’s own egg cannot be used, someone must hold 90 days’ Texas residency before the validation suit, and the carrier must have had a prior pregnancy and delivery. Commercial egg donation and surrogacy are prohibited in mainland China. This is legal description, not advice — take licensed counsel in both jurisdictions before signing.

Which month should I travel?

October and November: mild, comparatively dry, fewer disruptions. March–April is workable with refundable tickets and a spare day. January–February carries genuine black-ice risk that has closed Dallas airports and interstates before. July–September is heat-dominated and needs confirmed air conditioning and a cold-chain plan.

Can fertility medication be mailed to my address?

Ask the clinic. US pharmacies can often dispense to a residential address on prescription, and a domestic refill may be same-day if a shipment is lost. Confirm the cold-chain handoff and who signs, and keep the electronic prescription plus generic drug names with you. Do not rely on carrying a whole cycle of injectables through the airport.

Will travel insurance cover an OHSS admission?

Mostly not — travel medical policies commonly exclude fertility-treatment complications, which is your exact exposure (OHSS, post-retrieval bleeding or infection, ectopic pregnancy, multiples). Get the self-pay admission range and the receiving emergency department from the clinic, then hold a contingency reserve.

Does a baby born during treatment get US citizenship?

Birth on US soil confers citizenship under the 14th Amendment regardless of the parents’ status. For PRC families the practical step is the child’s travel document, and in Texas that routes to the embassy in Washington — online application plus in-person fingerprint capture. Whether an infant must appear, and whether mailing is possible, should be confirmed with the embassy before you plan the second trip.

Closing: Choose Dallas If You Want Certainty

Compress the article into three sentences. First, Dallas opens the two boxes that stay shut inland: the price and the flight. One clinic lists self-pay fees, and Shanghai was nonstop on the day we checked. Second, it moves cost onto the ground — no rail serving your monitoring commute, no rental registration to verify, consular paperwork in Washington. Third, it has a trap the coastal cities do not: retrieval surgery and embryology may sit at a partner’s address, so a day-by-day written schedule of addresses is a requirement, not a suggestion.

If you want a trip whose total you can compute in advance, and would rather not spend stimulation-phase energy on connections, Dallas belongs on the shortlist. If you will not drive, or need on-the-ground Chinese-language support, Houston, Seattle and New York are different trades; for the wider destination choice see Choosing an IVF Abroad Destination and USA vs Thailand, and prepare ahead with How to Improve Egg Quality.

Unverified items are marked in place — DART fares and service windows, Dallas hotel ADR and occupancy, STR permit fees and penalties, suburban lodging-tax components, the current EVUS fee, international airfares, cycle prices at four of five clinics, interpreter availability, travel-document mailing, and Dallas ice events in 2024–2026. “Not found” is not “does not exist”: verify on official channels before deciding.
